Update #12: A special message to those who backed our Decade Archive project
Update #11: More about your Rewards
Update #10: Rewards!
Update #9: I love it
Thanks everyone!
Pledges are still trickling in! Now over 70 supporters though kickstarter.
With 3 days to go, we can still accept pledges. After the 15th, we'll email you to find out your T-shirt size, or which ABC you'd like, etc. Be sure your contact information is correct with kickstarter so that we can contact you! (I assume if you get this, then your email address is correct).
Last minute pledges are especially welcome! Don't be shy to encourage others. These funds will help enormously!
Once we send out your T-shirts, prints, and artists books, we'll keep you updated on how things are going at Booklyn. Hopefully we will find a buyer for the archive this year. A few images have been uploaded to our FaceBooklyn page, and more will be posted to a flickr.com account soon.
You can also subscribe to our announcement listserve for occasional updates from Booklyn.
Cheers,
Kurt & Booklyn
Update #8: We did it!
You all rock!
Plain and simple.
We set a goal, and you met the challenge.
Feel free to swing by and bask in the adoration we will shower on you.
After the 15th, we will begin organizing the sending of your rewards.
And stay tuned for Booklyn's Decade party, which we're planning for sometime early this year...
Cheers,
Kurt & all of Booklyn (that's a lot of people, really - it includes the board, the staff, all the artists we represent, the public who enjoy our programming, all the students who get to see the books we leave with university libraries and museums, and all the librarians, curators and collectors who's day we hopefully brighten with our visits...)
Update #7: 50 backers; $9,476; 11 days & $524 to go....
Wow! Happy New Year!
I stepped away from my computer for a few days of internet-free holidays and came back to find that thousands of dollars have been pledged (and donated) to Booklyn in the last few days. I'm amazed, and want to thank each of the 20 new people that pledged through kickstarter.com - in addition to the previous 39 people who've pledged. Your generosity has brought us very close to our $10,000 goal -- with less less than 2 weeks until the deadline.
We've also had many people donating through our nycharites.org page during the last few days of 2009, which is fantastic.
Thank you all - anyone who wants can bump up their pledge easily, or encourage your friends to help push it over the finish line!

Booklyn will be mounting a show of Kottie's recent work titled "Fragments of a Fictional Reality" in our Greenpoint studio from Feb 4th to April 1st. You don't want to miss this! In this crisp survey of provocative new drawings, soft sculptures, photography, and artists books, longtime Booklyn artist Paloma introduces the 5 boroughs to: STUPORMAN!, THE HOTEL GIRLS!, wretched talking shoes, the German language, former lovers, stacks of cigarettes, and a collaborative print and stencil project with legendary San Francisco Stencil Pirate and Mission School Godfather Scott Williams. The Booklyn Decade
At 10-years old, Booklyn is organizing over 35-cubic feet of material in to an archive to be sold to a worthy institution to raise much-needed operating funds. A team of archivist/librarians have been hard at work for months, and are nearing completion of this herculean task. The archive will include books, prints, drawings, artists files and correspondence, as well as other vital records of publications, exhibitions, educational outreach, etc. Imagine trying to organize 10 years worth of correspondence, book mock-ups, artist’s proofs, prints, single-object and editioned books, cancelled checks, hand-drawn invoices, and much more! Librarians and curators: if you are interested in this collection, please contact mweber@booklyn.org. More information on supporting this initiative can be found at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1053023774/booklyn-artist-alliance-the-next-decade.
Right now we've raised 85% of our goal of $10,000! But in order to receive any of those funds, we must reach the $10K goal by Jan 15. So now it is more critical than ever that you take a moment to check out our online campaign and pledge. In exchange, we have many great rewards!
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1053023774/booklyn-artist-alliance-the-next-decade
If you've already pledged, THANK YOU. Forward on our appeal to increase the effect of your pledge - and remember, you won't get your reward unless we reach our goal. So we're in it together! You can increase your pledge (and choose new rewards) by going back to the site and easily clicking the large green "manage my pledge" button.

People at Booklyn
Booklyn has a new face at the office: Tracey Ober has signed on to help keep us on our toes and manage the day-to-day business. She comes to us with years of non-profit management and journalism experience. We're very excited to have her on board.
Felice Tebbe has recently returned to Booklyn to help with the distribution of artwork to museums and other collections.
Also this year, our Board has grown to include Amber Billey, a fabulous librarian/archivist who has been instrumental in putting together the Booklyn Decade. She brings to the Board some very valuable skills and knowledge, as well as her connections to our local community (as President of the Friends of the Greenpoint Library Association).

Booklyn Ed Manual
Now out-of print, you can download a copy of Booklyn's Ed Manual here:
http://www.booklyn.org/news/000237.php
Booklyn has brought together book artists and educators to write, illustrate, and design an education manual for use by other book artists and educators. This two year collaboration between artists and educators aims to get the peoples' hands making more books, inside and outside the classroom. The Booklyn ED Manual is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by the Brooklyn Arts Council.

Booklyn welcomes all book and paper artists as well as collectors and curators - call, email or visit. Students, interns, instructors, grant writers, web designers, database wizards: we would love to collaborate. And anyone with a rich uncle...

Update #5: The Next Wave
Hi Backers!
If all goes well, Booklyn's new majordomo-managed listserve should have sent an appeal out to almost 3000 people last night. If you didn't get a message, and would like to subscribe to Booklyn's (very occasional) announcement email list, you can send an email to majordomo@booklyn.org with the words "subscribe booklyn" in the body of the email (and nothing else - delete any signatures).
We hope that this will inspire the next wave of pledges and push us to the $10,000 goal so that your pledges will be counted and so that you will get your prizes!
Cheers!
Booklyn
Update #4: Social Media
“It’s pretty well documented that social media is by no means an easy way to raise money,” said Sean Stannard-Stockton, chief executive of Tactical Philanthropy Advisors...

Please, folks, open your hearts and wallets, just a little bit, every one who has been connected with booklyn over the past 10 years. You have all found joy and pleasure, learning and fellowship - now it's time to give some back, so that the goal will be met.

Update #3: more thanks and praises
So a super big thanks to everyone supporting this drive. A few more people have pledged, some with very generous amounts. Every single dollar is important, so thank you all!
We've passed the 20% mark, and are going full-steam ahead towards the goal of $10,000 by Jan 15. Feel free to pass along the link to anyone else you may know who would be interested - chances are we have missed them in our mailings.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1053023774/booklyn-artist-alliance-the-next-decade
This week is the 10-year anniversary of the day Marshall and I went down to the Brooklyn County courthouse to file business papers officially creating Booklyn. It's been a great decade.
Be sure to check us out on Facebooklyn
cheers,
Kurt
Update #2: Gaining momentum
Hey! Thanks to all those who've pledged so far! In a few short days, we've gotten almost 10% of our goal of $10,000. Now we just need to keep it going - encourage your friends to pledge, because remember, this is an all-or-nothing project. You don't get your reward unless we reach our goal, and we get none of the money unless we reach that goal (and you won't get charged).
Make your cash do more work! Email your friends a link
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1053023774/booklyn-artist-alliance-the-next-decade
A T-shirt usually goes for $15 on the website -- through this project, you get a big discount. Same goes for most of the other rewards... Make your cash do more work!
Thanks again!
Booklyn loves you!
