Hi and thanks for visiting our project. We make eco-friendly bags and accessories here in Raleigh, North Carolina. With your help, we'd like to hang them around more shoulders.

COMMUTER PURSE /// See more HERE on Flickr. The Commuter Purse has three pockets and an adjustable shoulder strap. Designed with a utilitarian purpose in mind for quick travel. Size is 7 1/4 in. wide x 10 in. tall.
AERO DRAWSTRING BAG /// See more HERE on Flickr. This drawstring is a throw and go bag. Made with recycled wool blend aircraft fabrics. Measures 19 in. wide x 22 in. tall and has one outer pocket.
THE AIR BAG /// The Air Bag, which is based on the piece commissioned by Recycle Runway's Environmental Stewardess Exhibition, contains 90% recycled content. It's lined with recycled wool blend aircraft curtains.
CONCOURSE BAG /// See more HERE on Flickr. The Concourse holds an iPad or Kindle comfortably. Has a slider for shoulder strap adjustment.
HARGETT MESSENGER BAG /// See more HERE on Flickr. This is the classic messenger bag for cyclists. Has shoulder and messenger strap. Many zippered and interior pockets. Measures 15 inches wide x 10 in. by 6in. Has expansion straps for over-stuffing. Made from recycled bike inner tubes and recycled aircraft curtains as liner.
FIRST CLASS LAPTOP BAG /// See more HERE on Flickr. Holds a 15 inch laptop comfortably and is fully padded. Many zippered and interior pockets. We recycled the bicycle valve stems into zipper pulls for a unique touch.
PIEDMONT LAPTOP BAG /// See more HERE on Flickr. Also holds a 15 inch laptop comfortably and is fully padded. This was the very first bag design I began with back in Fall 2009. Still my favorite.
TURBO DUFFLE BAG /// See more HERE on Flickr. At 21 inches long, this one's for overnight travel. It's got a classic look with nickel plated hardware.
ONE-OF-A-KIND BAG in WHITE SAIL CLOTH /// Here's a glance at the actual worn sail cloth we'll use, which was salvaged from Oriental, North Carolina.
T-SHIRT AND FINE ART PRINT DESIGN
The graphic design of the T-Shirt and the fine art print will be quite similar to the graphic shown below. The T-Shirt material will be a medium grey color. The Fine Art Print will be a Serigraph on acid-free archival quality paper.
Our Story Tierra Ideas started in 2009 by making travel bags from recycled materials. We aimed to create handcrafted goods out of materials that would otherwise end up as trash in a landfill, like worn bicycle inner tubes and weathered sail cloth. We constructed the bags in Raleigh, North Carolina, not overseas, with many of the materials sourced locally. We've been fortunate to be in an area with a long history in the textile industry. The idea gained traction around Raleigh and we've enjoyed meeting people at a local weekend market. We found out that many were interested in locally-made, sustainable goods.
Now in recent years, we noticed that the airline industry began focusing efforts on finding new ways to recycle even more of their waste. We wanted to be part of this leading effort. And so a recent partnership with Delta Air Lines led us to create a line of bags made from 100% recycled aircraft curtains and seat back covers. These worn fabrics are donated by Delta Air Lines. Our bags are in several Raleigh-Durham area stores. But with these 1000's of worn, aircraft fabrics, we'd like to recycle them into many more bags.
Our Next Step So here's how You can help. To recycle all of this material, we'd like to get our bags out there, hanging on more shoulders beyond our hometown. This will mean increasing production. Since our start, we've been self-financed, but with your help we want to
- purchase additional equipment, which will help us streamline manufacturing
- partner with a local manufacturer, Red-Handed Bags, and
- expand our product line and keep living our passion.

Tierra Ideas is an eco-conscious bag manufacturing company based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Founder, Matt Mahler, has been making bags from sustainable materials for three years. He wanted to divert waste from landfills by giving it a second life as a brand new bag or purse.
Matt enjoys kicking back at Carolina Beach with his wife Luisa and kids, Emma and Nico. They like listening to live beach music at the pier.
