About this project
Stage Werx is a small theatre that provides a stage to a wide variety of performances and performers in San Francisco. Established in 2007 by twin sisters Cory and Ty Mckenzie, Stage Werx has become a home for many resident theatre companies, solo performers, storytellers, improv, comedians, circus arts, film, and a host of classes and workshops. Their goal is to provide their community with an affordable, well-run, up-to-date venue so performers can focus on their craft and audiences can be wisked away to theatrical destinations.
The new location, 446 Valencia in the heart of the Mission District, is a 4000 sq. ft. space with a large stage, room for 71+ seats and a separate rehearsal studio. There is a lot to be done before they'll be able to open their doors. They've teamed up with Kickstarter to raise $22,250 to cover the daunting inspection and permit fees, sound and lighting equipment, curtains, carpet, paint, construction and electrical work.
With your help they can continue to provide a dynamic, eclectic, inclusive theatre that welcomes new ideas and community participation.
The Kickstarter Campaign ends on June 15, 2011
Stage Werx 446 will open it's doors on September 1, 2011
** DATE CHANGE: The Gala Opening is on Friday September 30 & Saturday Oct 1, 2011 We've had to push the date up because we've gotten shows booked!! 3 months out and we're already in business. If you can't make the new dates and want to see another show just let us know.
They've created different tiers to accept donations. For all their producer and performer friends they've offer the Producers Special.
PRODUCERS SEPCEIAL $300 or more
Half off one night rental for your show. (up to a $175 savings) 2 VIP tickets to our Gala Opening and
2 cool Stage Werx Coffee Mugs (VIP tickets includes reserved seats and
free drinks)
**ADDED REWARD**
We are commissioning a special plaque from a local artist to honor
everyone who gives at the $100 level or more. Details will follow, the
exact design is going to depend on how many folks contribute. Larger
donations will get more prominent placement. This plaque will be
installed in our lobby and will be a great testimonial to the fact that
our space is founded on support from the neighborhood and arts
community. Of course if you don't want your name listed, that's fine.
It's just a way of recognizing everyone who is helping out now when it
is really critical and celebrating their generosity for many years to
come.
Remember that you can always increase your pledge, like if you want
to go up to $100: if you've already pledged then there's a button that
says "Manage your pledge" on our page: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1049760700/stage-werx-446.
Just press that and you can change the amount of your donation, as well
as changing the "Reward Selection" level. For folks who are remote or
for some other reason can't make our Gala Opening, I'm working on an
additional thank you gift. Stay tuned, I'll be adding details on that
soon.
