We're creating a film about surfing in Florida. We'll highlight the breaks, people, and places that make surfing in Florida what it is.
THE IDEA: When people think about surfing in the United States, they inevitably think of California and Hawaii. While those states have great waves and a deep surfing culture, Florida has a magic all it's own, and a deep surfing heritage. We're creating a film to showcase this.
My twin brother and I have grown up surfing in Florida, and not only have we experienced the great surfing Florida has to offer, but we've also been inspired by the people who have come from Florida and made an impact on the world — people like Kelly Slater, Lisa Anderson, Cory and Shea Lopez, and more.
We're going to create a film that really tells the story about Florida surfing, in a professional, stylish, and captivating manner.
THE PLAN: The plan is to travel the state of Florida and capture what it means to be a surfer in Florida, and build appreciation for what Florida has to offer. We'll hit everything from Jacksonville Beach all the way down to South Florida, around to the Gulf Coast and then up to the Panhandle. The plan is to cover it all. It won't be done in one trip, but we'll do our best to hit the spots on the days when the waves are great, to really highlight the best of Florida. We plan on filming surfing action, interviewing people who are central to Florida surfing, and focusing on some of the places that add to the vibe and culture.
We're trying to raise just enough money to cover basic equipment, rentals, travel, and to fulfill the rewards. If we can raise more than the project goal, any extra money will go right back into the production, with a second camera, better equipment and more support. We also really hope the surfing community can help us get interviews with some of the famous surfers from Florida, such as Kelly Slater and Lisa Anderson.
THE REWARDS: We've got great rewards planned, as both of us are award winning graphic designers and filmmakers. These rewards will be professionally designed and printed, and when possible printed with water-based inks on recycled papers or materials in an effort to be more environmentally friendly.
We thank you in advance for your support. We're really stoked to be making this film, as surfing, filmmaking, and our home state of Florida are things that we're really passionate about. We're sure you'll see this love and enthusiasm come out in this project.
