March 20th update- "Dream Good"
Hey all!
Very excited to say that everything is going swimmingly with the record, I'm all set to have Brad Jones mix the week of May 7th-11th, I will join him in Nashville for the second half of the mix. It'll be mastered a week or two after at Yes Master in Nashville who often work in conjunction with Brad, then go off to duplication at Discmakers in NJ.
Also, I'm proud to announce that I have finally settled on a title that I really like. The record will be called "Dream Good", and not only is that the title of a last minute song I wrote which I plan to include, but it was also #20 on Woody Guthrie's list of New Years Resolutions from 1943.
I'm working on some CD release shows on the East Coast mid-June, I will settle on a final release date soon, and should have pre-release downloads available to all who have donated by the end of May. There is still time left for anyone who wants to pre-order a CD or get a custom song written, or get a living room show (and some cool stuff in between)! Kickstarter campaign ends April 4th!

Hey all- I have to once again thank everyone profusely for the amazing support so far with this Kickstarter campaign!
The fact that I met my initial goal of covering CD mastering & duplication costs in the first day- aside from making me almost fall over from amazement- also opened the door to the real possibility of having the record professionally mixed instead of me doing it myself at home. In particular it allowed me to approach Brad Jones at Alex The Great in Nashville as it has always been a dream of mine to work with him.
We have had several conversations and he is set to mix the record in the beginning of May, and it will then get mastered at Yes Master mastering in Nashville who do a lot of projects in conjunction with Brad.
So, I am thrilled to say that my project is guaranteed to be funded being that I met my original goal, and that there are still a few weeks left before I reach the final deadline for donations.
That original goal did not include these guys working with me, but I'm now only about $2,100 shy of what it will take to cover all of this, thanks to the generosity of friend and family and fans like you.
There are of course plenty of other costs I will have to cover along the way, but I can still use your help if you can give it. Not only will you get a cool reward in return, your donation will definitely help this be my best album yet!
I am truly honored to have friends & fans who are willing & able to help out, I don't take that lightly.

******Update #2: Phase 2 - to dream the impossible dream.******
Over the last many years I've been a huge admirer of the work of producer, mixer, songwriter, musician Brad Jones. I have loved everything I've even heard that he's recorded or mixed for artists like Marshall Crenshaw, Matthew Sweet, Jill Sobule, David Mead, Josh Rouse, Richard Julian, just to name a few. Last Spring on the way back from SXSW I even made a visit to his studio (Alex The Great) in Nashville. While I have hoped for years to be able work with him and record there someday it has always been out of my small budget.
But!Thanks to your generous donations that are coming in above and beyond my original goal, I have spoken with Brad and am setting up a plan to have him mix my record!!!!
I'm not kidding when I say that it's been a dream of mine to work with him ever since I first found out about his work, so you can imagine how incredibly psyched I am to legitimately be able to pursue this opportunity.
So, even though I still will be
putting a lot on the old rock 'n roll credit card for this project, your
Kickstarter donations are a huge part of helping me fulfill this dream.
I'm really excited to be making the best record I've ever made in my
life, and with Brad Jones mixing it I know it can be.

Hey everyone - Cliff Hillis here!
As some of you folks may already know, I'm a singer/songwriter based in Phoenixville PA (home of the movie "The Blob!") I write Beatles-y melodic rock songs, in the vein of Fountains of Wayne, Elliott Smith, and sometimes Cheap Trick (rock!).
I've been an independent
musician for a number of years and do many things to try to make a living at
music. Besides writing, performing and recording my own music, I play in many
different bands and do a lot of recording for other people. Unfortunately I
often end up putting other peoples’ projects ahead of my own, which
makes it hard to find time to work on my own music. But now the time has come
and I have cleared my calendar to complete my new release!
I feel like I have written some of my strongest songs to date since the release
of my last CD and I can't wait to share it with you, my fans and friends- and
give the world a chance to hear it too.
This release, like my others will be available through TallBoy Records, but just like many indie artists in my situation I will need to cover the CD mastering & duplication costs, as well as a bunch of the promotion & touring.
I'm hoping through the magic of Kickstarter you will help me bring my music to the biggest audience yet!
Besides doing a good deed, your contribution will also get you some pretty cool bonuses, from a
pre-release digital download or autographed CD, to a Cliff Hillis house concert
anywhere in the US!
While I've been in projects in the past that have asked fans to help, this is
the first time I've ever tried it myself. With the releases I have put out so
far I've scrambled to cover those costs myself, and sometimes I even sell
enough copies to make most of it back, but not always.
Any amount you contribute will
work towards the goal, but if that goal isn’t met, I don’t get any of the
donations at all. Rest assured any donations received after meeting that goal
will go directly toward promotion & touring to promote this release, and
maybe will get me to be able to tour in your neck of the woods.
