A Better Digital Picture Frame

Most digital picture frames really suck. They have low-resolution screens, they're impossible to set up and use, and they're ugly. As a photographer and product designer, I wanted to create something better to display photos on. So I built iFrame.

Seconds to Install, Seconds to Remove

Don't worry – your iPad won't be stuck in the iFrame. iFrame is built to make it easy to put in and take out your iPad. To install, just turn two clips, open the hinged back, plug in power, and close the hinged back. You're done. All this takes less than 10 seconds. (We've timed it.) Removing your iPad is even easier.

 

Not Just a Picture Frame

Of course, since you have access to the touchscreen and all key iPad functionality, you can do much more than just display photos with your iPad when it's in iFrame. iFrame can also turn your iPad into: 

• A digital recipe book on a stand in the kitchen
• A tasteful bedside alarm clock
• A desk-side calendar
• A weather report in the living room

You say you can access all key iPad functionality. What does that include? What about the home button?

The lock switch, the volume buttons, and the touchscreen are all easily accessible when the iPad is in iFrame. The home button is not itself accessible, but is replaced by the iPad’s “home” gesture (pinch with four or five fingers), which you can enable in Settings. The only thing that is not accessible is the headphone jack.

You say I can hang it on a wall. What about power?

You have three options: you can run the discrete, white USB cable down to an outlet; you can rely on the iPad's 10-hour battery life if you just want iFrame on your wall temporarily to impress friends or family; or you can have an electrician wire up an outlet behind your iFrame. Obviously, the last option is pretty extreme, and only for real digital picture frame aficionados. (For the record – no, I haven't done that myself.)

Does iFrame work with any iPad?

Yes. iFrame will work with any model iPad: iPad 1, iPad 2, and iPad 3 ("The New iPad"). 

Are you affiliated with Apple in an way?

No. iPad is a trademark of Apple and Apple has absolutely nothing to do with this project.

Are you serious about the name? Don’t you know that <iframe> is an HTML element?
