The BCC is dedicated to collaborative creation, dissemination and education of new concert music. Our first season includes three concert weekends.

The goal of the Boston Composers’ Coalition is to bring emerging composers together with established ensembles in order to collaboratively create and present new art-music in the Boston area and beyond. The BCC is embarking on their first three-concert season, each concert of which features a different ensemble that performs newly composed works specifically written for them by BCC composers. By keeping the composers and performers in constant contact from the beginning of each concert period, BCC programs are created in a truly collaborative fashion, making each concert a unique professional experience for both the composers and performers.

The composers featured on BCC concerts include our member composers, as well as several guest composers. Further, the BCC includes one pre-college aged composer on each of its concerts, offering a unique experience for young composers to learn from, work with and have pieces performed by the composers and ensembles featured in the concert season.

Not just dedicated to the performance of new works in traditional art-music venues, the BCC will also present each program in a community based location, bringing new classical music into the lives of audiences who may not otherwise have the chance to embrace it. In addition, we plan to stream one concert from each weekend on the web, so that anyone can be an active member of our audience. One of our goals is to create an interactive platform for composers, ensembles and audiences to continuously, actively and successfully collaborate in and appreciate the field of new music.

The six composers who make up the core group for our first season are founder and director Justin Casinghino, co-founder and associate director Brett Abigaña, Jeremy Van Buskirk, Davide Ianni, Ramon Castillo and Po-Chun Wang. This eclectic group of composers is incredibly diverse in their compositional aesthetics, offering audiences a wide view of contemporary classical music. Our first concert weekend, taking place October 22nd, 23rd and 24th, will feature the ensemble the Fourth Wall. This trio, comprised of flute, bass trombone and percussion incorporate elements of dance and theatre into their musical presentations. This first concert also features our first of three student composers for the season. Our first student composer is an excellent example of the incredibly talented young generation of composers who is excited and ready for a wider audience base. Our first season also includes slated collaborations with the Arcadian Wind Quintet and a concert featuring flute, harp and electronic media.

If the amount of this Kickstarter campaign is reached, it will cover costs for a portion of our first season, including rental costs of performance venues, compensation for ensembles (which mostly covers travel and rehearsal costs), and costs of printed materials and other general business needs. If you can help us take this first step, you are helping not just the composers in the group, but all of the ensembles and student composers as well.

If you are a supporter of the arts, this is a wonderful opportunity for you to be a part of so many artists’ lives.
