Boo and I decided to make a duo record and we got the fabulous three time Grammy winner Steve Rosenthal to produce it!
Boo and I are best known for fronting the NYC based band "Demolition String Band." We helped create a scene for country music in New York City with our residencies, monthly series, tribute nights and bluegrass jams. We opened for bands like The Avett Brothers, Southern Culture On The Skids, Patti Smith, Joan Osborne, Ollabelle, Asleep At The Wheel, The Klezmatics, Rambling Jack Elliot, Railroad Earth, Donna The Buffalo, Charlie Louvin, Ricky Skaggs, and Tim O'Brien We've toured the country and our album “Pulling Up Atlantis” was released in Europe where we did two very successful tours.
Well, now Boo and I are working on a fabulous new album as "Elena Skye & Boo Reiners," produced by three-time Grammy Award winner Steve Rosenthal. We tracked the songs at Hoboken’s Water Music Studios and did our overdubs and mixing at Steve's studio The Magic Shop in Manhattan. The album features original material by both Boo and I (even a couple of our instrumentals, including a lullaby dedicated to mandolin great Jethro Burns of the country comedy duo Homer & Jethro) as well as a carefully chosen selection of songs by artists who have had a profound effect on our music including The Ramones, Ola Belle Reed, Woody Guthrie, Blaze Foley and Mickey Newbury. Guest musicians include Tony Leone (Ollabelle), Catherine Popper (Grace Potter, Ryan Adams, Tony Rice), David Mansfield, Kenny Soule, Mike Santoro, Neil Pawley (Southside Johnny) and Lisa Gutkin (The Klezmatics). There's fiddle, viola, lapsteel, pump organ and even a brief appearance by the tuba and trombone!
Working with Steve has been a great opportunity for us, and being able to work in these stellar studios has been an amazing experience but we’ve come to the point where we’ve completely run out of funds. We’re hoping that with Kickstarter we can raise the money we need to finish, design and manufacture the CD, and then get it out to radio and press. And of course, my favorite part, tour to support it!
