About this project
Our names are Meg, Ben, and Heather, and we are a group of photo students from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. This summer, we would like to do a collective photography project to rediscover the pioneering spirit of early America by walking from Minneapolis to Chicago and photographing our journey from three different viewpoints. Then we will compile our photographs into a marvelous book!
While our photographic styles are very different, we tend to focus on similar subjects from different approaches, and this journey offers us the perfect opportunity to do just this, as well as the adventure of a life-time. Meg will be focusing on the narrative of the walk, turning it into a mock post-apocalyptic home journey. Heather will be creating a portrait of the wide scope of people who live in the northern midlands of America, as well as photographing any oddness we may come upon. Ben will be focusing photographically on the memories and remnants of those who have traveled this route before us, and their effects on the places we pass through. We hope this project will yield a beautiful photography book visually detailing three students' rediscoveries of what America is to them and what it means to work hard to make outstanding and unique work.
For this project, we will need large amounts of socks, beef jerky, cliff bars, and apples, medium format film, extra camera batteries and camera cards, sun hats, hotel rooms to recharge camera batteries/update blogs, and copious amounts of water. Your support would be ever so greatly appreciated in helping to fulfill our dream.
