Three student filmmakers are launching their first major attempt at a budgeted feature-length film.
The three of us have been filmmakers since the sixth grade. Now, in college, we're looking to expand our horizons. We've slowly progressed from making improvised horror movies and filming comedy skits to more planned, thought-out projects, and this time we're shooting for a professional level.
We've recently obtained an HD camera to film with, investing in it with our own money. But now there's still a lot more spending to do before this project is done. We'd like to get a lens for the camera, realistic blood and gore, monster make-up, special lighting, stunt work, professional sound recording and mixing, visual as well as practical effects, spaces to film in that need to be rented, and of course feeding and accommodating our full cast and crew while on location. We've set a goal for $1000, but really that's our minimum. Every bit after that will help us get closer to that professional caliber that we aim for, and of course every single donation will get you the rewards we've promised. If there's one thing we love more than producing these films, it's getting them to an audience.
Connor Delaney, the principal writer, has always loved creating stories and now he's eager to bring one to life. He's been writing since a very young age, and wrote his first script in the seventh grade. He's come a long way since then, and is proud to work with his two closest friends and colleagues on creating a legitimate piece of cinema.
Owen Barabasz, the director, is a big fan of film in all its forms, and has always had keen intuition for putting stories together. Definitely more comfortable behind the camera, he is very excited to apply his vision to this practical use of his skills and create a film worth putting his name behind.
David LeMay, the cinematographer and principal camera operator, has been making movies for the longest out of the three. He became familiar with the outdated, shoulder-mounted camera that his family owned in early grade school, and with each equipment upgrade he's been the first to understand exactly what the camera is capable of. His experienced hand is a priceless asset in this production.
The three of us together are the founders of this production company, and all have been acting for most of our lives. All our combined experiences have built up to this project, and we're all eager to put our considerable knowledge to good use.
The debut film of Familiar Features is entitled Affliction. The plot centers around Rachel Braen, a young girl in her teens who comes from a broken home, who becomes a victim of extreme circumstances when an unprecedented pathogen strikes while she's staying at her grandfather's lakeside cabin. As she is slowly driven insane by the virus, she gets separated from her family and must find a way to survive as the people around her are transformed into terrifying new creatures by the same affliction.
The script has been written, and pre-production has already begun. If you're near Kitsap and have an interest in taking part, we're holding auditions until May 1st. Email us at email@example.com to make an appointment.
Our ultimate goal is to take this to film festivals and contests, and make it as widely viewed as we can. Every dollar you donate brings us a step closer to realizing that dream, and we will be forever thankful.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and we hope you can find it in yourself to contribute to our passion.
