We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

Funded! This project successfully raised its funding goal on December 7.

Photo-main

This is a heartwarming story of three generations of women surviving death with only each other, food, cigarettes and wine.

At Sit a Spell Productions, our goal is to breathe life into original works that have not been produced or published previously.

This production, Barbecue, Fried Chicken and "Where's the Will?" is a play telling a story that anyone can relate to. It is the story of how one family deals with death. Everybody eats too much and smokes too much and drinks too much, but they find strength in one another.

However, staging a production is no easy task. This is where you come in: Breathing life into a play not only requires actors, a director, and a performance space. It also requires funding. We need your help to raise the money required to produce the premiere production of Barbecue, Fried Chicken, and "Where's the Will?".

We are sure you are wondering how your hard earned dollars will be utilized. Let us break it down for you:

40% of the amount raised will go towards rehearsal space.

20% of the amount raised will go to the performance space, The Tank Theatre in Midtown on 46th Street.

15% of the amount raised will go towards Kickstarter fees, credit card fees and providing the Kickstarter rewards.

15% of the amount raised will go to promotion, publicity, and printing.

10% of the amount raised will go to props, costumes, set, and hopefully providing a stipend for our actors.

. We plan to stage this play on December 21 and 22 at the Tank Theatre in midtown Manhattan on 46th Street between 6th ave and 7th ave.

You can help Sit A Spell Productions breathe life into art by helping to fund our project: Barbecue, Fried Chicken and "Where's the Will?".

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

With any artistic endeavor , there are always risks and challenges. The first one that comes to mind, though it may sound simple is: "I hope they like it."
To be honest art isn't about if "they" like it, but if the artist believes in it.

The main risk with producing a new piece of theatre is finding an audience. A playwright hopes that someone will see this piece of art and decide that it deserves a life far longer than a barely established production company, compiled of a group of twenty somethings could ever give it.
An actor is willing to do a workshop of a new play for little or no pay because they believe in the vision of everyone involved.
A director slaves over new works with the hope that perhaps he can remember why he began directing in the first place.
With breathing life into a new work everyone involved hopes that this particular piece will live forever.
At Sit a Spell Productions, we are trying to not focus on the money we need, or the audience we hope will rush to buy their tickets, but on the life that BBQ, Fried Chicken and "Where's the Will?" has the potential to experience.
