Sex, religion, and politics collide as six Pakistani-American Muslim females air their dirty lingerie...

"Breaks down stereotypes of Muslim women in America..." --The Wall Street Journal

- A Muslim college student tells Aizzah after a performance of Dirty Paki Lingerie that she had no idea a Muslim girl could be an artist, and will now pursue her dream of being a musician…

 - A middle-aged woman in a hijab approaches Erica, who is Jewish, and thanks her for putting her story on stage…

 - At an audience discussion after the show, an older Japanese couple, a 30-year-old African-American woman, and a young Jewish man in his twenties all talk about how surprised they are to see their own experiences reflected in the stories of six Muslim-American women…

After sold-out runs in NYC and Toronto

DIRTY PAKI LINGERIE

WRITTEN & PERFORMED BY AIZZAH FATIMA

DEVELOPED & DIRECTED BY ERICA GOULD

Is Going to the UK…

We are all so proud of this show, and humbled by the responses it has received from audiences in New York City, and Toronto…

In August, Dirty Paki Lingerie will be going to Edinburgh for a month-long run. Among other events, we have been asked to do a special performance that will be followed by a panel discussion with Erica, Aizzah, and the Director of Scotland Amnesty International.

Please join us in taking the show over the Atlantic to share it with audiences at the largest theatre festival in the world

RECENT PRESS ABOUT THE PLAY:

"Breaks down stereotypes of Muslim women in America."  --The Wall Street Journal

"(Fatima and Gould's) collaboration...shatters stereotypes and forges new cross-cultural understanding..." --Backstage

"See this production" --Nytheater.com

AND IN NYC...

Before we go to Edinburgh, we will be doing three performances at the East to Edinburgh Festival at 59E59 on July 19, 20, 21 @ 9pm.  Get your tickets Here.

Our fundraising goal is $10,000. Kickstarter is all or nothing.  If a project doesn't raise its entire goal amount, it doesn't get anything.

Your generous donations will help pay for travel costs to Edinburgh from NYC, accommodations, rental of the theater, rehearsal space, technical staff, marketing, and PR. Each dollar you donate will help move the play forward, and we can't wait to share the final product with you.

History of the Project

Dirty Paki Lingerie began in Matt Hoverman’s solo show workshop in New York in 2009, after which Aizzah continued working on the play at Wynn Handman Studios. In 2011, Aizzah started working with director Erica Gould to develop the piece into its current form. The play premiered in NYC in July of that year. In the fall of 2011, Dirty Paki Lingerie was the only play from the US to be invited to perform in Toronto at the largest South Asian festival in North America. On the 10th anniversary of 9/11, Aizzah and Erica re-mounted the show themselves in NYC. Each performance, including the one on September 11, also included the performance of excerpts from theatre pieces written from a Jewish and Christian perspective, and was followed by interfaith panel discussions with noted scholars, religious leaders, and community activists.

Recently the play has been commissioned by the US Embassy in Islamabad for a three city educational tour at Universities in Pakistan at the end of 2012. This effort is part of a broader initiative showcasing Muslim women in the arts.

A Personal Note From Aizzah...

I started creating this play because for a long time I felt there was a lack of Muslim-American female voices in the arts, and I knew all these remarkable women whose stories I wanted to share with the world.  It felt like literally overnight, parts of the country that I had called home were developing virulent Islamophobic sentiment. Citizens of a country that was founded on freedom of religion were now organizing opposition to, and violent acts against, the building of mosques. By showing a different side of the Pakistani-American community, I hope to show people that Muslims are just like everyone else.

Thanks for stopping by and for doing your part in taking this show to Edinburgh.
