Attacking unemployment..........One job at at time
The streets across the country swell with protestors and the real unemployment number is stuck in the stubborn double digits. In New York City’s midtown there is an island of hope, an employment agency filled with young and driven go-getters doing the impossible: finding jobs for people in the worst economy we’ve faced since the Great Depression.
This documentary will be told in a Robert Altmanesque fashion, with a myriad of characters guiding their clients through the perils and possible jubilation of the job hunt. We will embed with these young employment agents at AMERICA WORKS. Under the watchful eyes of the tireless and charismatic husband and wife team Peter Cove and Dr. Lee Bowes (the founders of AMERICA WORKS), our characters hustle to find work for some of the most difficult to employ: war-scarred veterans living at shelters, ex-cons, mothers coming off welfare. All are struggling in this new economic reality and our characters act as Sherpa’s, leading their clients up the job mountain.
We will see stories ranging from an out-of-work Wall Street broker coming to terms with a big pay cut at his new job, to a former big drug dealer using the business savvy he learned on the streets to make sales as a telemarketer, and everything in between. AMERICA WORKS is paying particular attention to the needs of returning veterans of America's foreign wars. This under-served segment of the unemployed is ready to give their best and take advantage of the AMERICA WORKS formula for success. AMERICA WORKS has placed over 200,000 people in jobs over its 25 year history. The company has transformed thousands of lives and given hope to the truly hopeless. Al Gore has called Peter Cove “The Godfather of Welfare Reform”
Our award winning team includes MARK BENJAMIN, the Peabody award winning and Emmy nominated producer/director of the Sundance series BRICK CITY, Indie film expert and producer Bruce Weiss and the exceptional editorial staff of Wheelhouse Creative in NYC. Everybody has donated their time, talent, and services to the project. We already have interest from several distributors.
BUT…we need money to keep the ball rolling.
These funds will allow us to continue our shooting, follow the storylines and develop more characters. It will get us to the level of bringing a distributor and or broadcaster on board.
Please help us tell this important story about people who are truly making a difference where it matters most…..One job at a time.
