The Comic Anthology of Cascadia's Underground.
Neoglyphic Media is a small publishing company and book distributor which supports radical comics, art, and music from a talented cast of multi-faceted artists and cultural creatives.
Emergence will be the first book of its kind published by Neoglyphic Media and has been in production for about two years. It is a massive, over 200 page, fully colored, 9" x 11" hardcover book featuring a cast of cartoonists all from Cascadia's burgeoning world of undergournd comics. This book offers a glimpse into the unique sub-culture of Cascadia, documenting our place in this world through the lens of some of today's most radical and inventive artists.
Emergence will feature contributions from:
- Aidan Koch
- Blaise Larmee
- Chris Cilla
- Cullen Beckhorn
- Daniel Duford
- Danielle Burton
- Drew Miller
- Dunja Jankovic
- Eroyn Franklin
- Jason Overby
- Joel Skavdahl

- Seamus Heffernan
- Sean Christensen
- Theo Ellsworth
Some of the artists here have been self-publishing for over 10 years while others are being published for their first time, but all have brought some of their best work into this collection.
Each copy of EMERGENCE will be assembled carefully right here in the Pacific Northwest from the best materials available (using recycled paper and vegetable based inks) and with quality as the number one priority. That means that all the pages will be sewn and case wrapped in a hardcover binding with beautiful colored endpages.
Each copy of the book will also feature one of five unique panoramic comic strips hidden on the inside of a band encircling the book.
You may be witness to something like this performance from CRUMBS, featuring EMERGENCE contributor Joel Skavdahl with Joe Hein and Justin Nijssen. And guess what?! They're back together and working on some new stuff!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
To this point, the major challenge has been in finding a print shop and binder who could actually take on this project. A couple different print shops had expressed interest in handling this book, and along the way there have been numerous times when I expected that it was going to be printed, but as they were faced with the details of the production, they realized it was a project they couldn't handle.
After the initial print shop decided that it was more than they were prepared to handle, I struggled to find another shop in Cascadia that actually had the equipment to produce this book in line with the original vision. The availability of print shops in the US is much less than it once was and most large scale book production is now done outside of the country. Many of the people I've talked to have recommended that with a project of this size, I should have it produced overseas, but in line with the theme of the book, I've been insistent upon having it sourced locally.
The aspirations towards such high quality production and sourcing everything locally have posed more than a small problem in finding a way to make all the pieces come together and make sense. Numerous print and binding shops have been interested in developing this project, but the amount of work involved in putting together the binding alone has been hard for any of them to scale.
Having now established a connection with a print shop in Portland, OR who are fully aware of the work required to complete this project and have the resources and the excitement needed to see past the challenges of producing it, I feel very confident that this project will finally see print. The only thing needed now is your help in coming up with the remaining cost needed to print this bad boy.
