Our place in the world (& Bertrand Russell video)
Le français est plus bas...
Dear Backers,
The debt-bill crisis was averted—sort of—until the next time. The stock market just went way down. Somalis are starving. Libyan rebels are still fighting. Syrians are being crushed, and the list goes on…
But in the middle of this turmoil, 169 of you thought IRIBA CENTER was important enough to join us and pledge $24,917 (62%) towards this project. THANK YOU! This, along with all the other good things that this campaign is bringing us – pledges for documents and photos, messages of support from people in all corners of the world, and institutional funders on the verge of coming through with substantial funding -- is giving us huge confidence in the soundness of our project, and boundless energy to carry this campaign to the finish line by August 21st!
But part of us is also worried. We’re worried that this turmoil will make us all recoil into our own little shells, when reaching out beyond our comfort zone is precisely what we should be doing to make this world a better place, together. And we’re also worried that because of the anxiety the world outside creates, we won’t find enough supporters like you prepared to get behind this important Center. We have 15 days to go and $15,000 left to raise in our efforts to get IRIBA CENTER off the ground. And we need your help!
We know many of you have done this already, but we’d like to ask you to take a few minutes of your time to reach out personally to at least FIVE of your friends to ask them to join you in supporting this campaign. They need not give much, just what they can, $1, $30, $100, or more, but there is strength in numbers, and we need more backers like you.
And remember, institutional funders are watching how we do. So every one of your dollars is going much further than just contributing to our August 21st goal. Together we can do this!
THANK YOU so much! Warmly,
Anne & Assumpta
As we were writing this update, I was reminded of an excerpt from a BBC interview of mathematician/philosopher Bertrand Russell. It dates back to 1959, before I was born, and he was 87. Here it is, less than 2 minutes long...
Mille MERCI! Chaleureusement,
Anne & Assumpta
