THANK YOU ALL for coming through in our goal to get to 100 backers by midnight last night! This was our own little trial run! Now we know we can all do it together and reach our final objective in a few weeks and get IRIBA CENTER up and running!

AWESOME project. It's so easy to give some money here...thank YOU for doing the hard and amazing work. Your films are so inspiring, so careful and decent in their balance, and so humane that I'm sure this center will be an important gem in Rwandan culture.

      Dear Anne,

I want to wish you and Assumpta the very best of luck with this wonderful project. I'm sorry that I am not in a position at present to make a bigger pledge, but I hope my $10 will be of some help. Hopefully, when I complete my PhD and get a job I will be able to offer further financial support. In the meantime, be assured of my moral support. As a mature student your films have been a major influence on my understanding of life in Rwanda post-genocide and have helped me to encourage others to look at life in Rwanda beyond the genocide without forgetting what took place.

I know you will succeed with this project because so many people around the world are willing you to get there!

      All the very best,

      Rosina Owens

Are we condemned to repeat pasts we cannot remember? This is an inspiring project that will hopefully help Rwandans remember a past we would all probably prefer to forget.

      Good luck reaching the goal!

This just in from Assumpta in Kigali.

      Merci cher Remi, continuons"

The link www.rwanda.hypotheses.org is an academic website. The blog post basically says that IRIBA CENTER is very much needed in Rwanda today, where audiovisual archives pertaining to the country are accessible. Thank you Rémi.

I wish I could give a sense of how important it is to support this initiative… When I first met Anne Aghion in 2000 I had just arrived in Rwanda on my first posting as humanitarian worker, and she was then just planning and preparing to film her first documentary there. No one could guess, at that time, how important her work would become for Rwanda – and that so much more than just filming was going to be involved! And I had no idea, then, that after working in so many countries and with a number of different organizations, her independent commitment to bring a chance for dialogue and reconciliation in Rwanda would remain one of the most genuine and powerful projects I have come across. Please donate to help IRIBA CENTER come to life!

Anne Aghion's work as a filmmaker has brought her to Rwanda for over a decade. Her GACACA FILMS, a series of three one-hours and the feature film MY NEIGHBOR MY KILLER have earned her numerous honors, among them an Emmy Award, UNESCO Fellini Prize, a Nestor Almendros Award for Courage in Filmmaking from the Human Rights Watch Film Festival, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Two of the shorter films were shown on television networks including Sundance Channel, Arte and more than half a dozen networks around the world. MY NEIGHBOR MY KILLER was one of the rare documentaries shown in Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival. The films have screened for tens of thousands of Rwandans to date.
Aghion’s other films include ICE PEOPLE shot over four months in Antarctica, and her debut work, SE LE MOVIO EL PISO (“The Earth Moved Under Him—A Portrait of Managua"), about slum dwellers in Nicaragua, which won a top award at the Havana Film Festival.
