My name is Dave Owens and I am an artist...poet, and a full time independent musician. When I was a kid, I used to hide underneath my bed at night with a little radio under my pillow. I'd keep the beat to the rhythm in my heart on the wooden boards above my head...that rhythm never stopped beating. I hope that after learning more about this project, you'll decide to pledge and keep my dream alive...thank you for taking the time to check it out!
The primary focus of this project is to record my first full length album. I want to make an independent album that sounds just as great as the majors. Being "Indie" shouldn't have to mean fuzzy recordings and limited exposure of the sounds we hear in our hearts.
I was recently approached about licensing my music out to network television shows and other film projects. What stopped me? A clean, well produced album. How cool would it be to say you supported the making of an album that you're hearing on your favorite show? With YOUR support, WE can make it happen!
**If you're in the local area where I'll be recording, I'd love to have you over to the studio - regardless of how much you pledge!**
Your pledges will go directly towards recording, producing, pressing, and distributing the album. These days, getting a decent recording isn't as expensive as it once was but without the support of listeners, it doesn't get much further than the studio. Even when you're signed to a an independent label, you're still expected to front some cash to make it happen. So, why pay them to do something you can do yourself when you have the greatest people in the world who are willing to help support the art?!
Studio time, musicians, mixing, mastering, artwork, distribution (not only physical albums, but getting it out on iTunes, Amazon, etc), merchandise (posters, t-shirts, buttons, stickers, etc), and then there are other costs involved in getting the music into the hands of the right people....whew!
Then there are every day costs...fresh guitar strings, drum sticks, cables, renting instruments, etc. As you can already tell, these all add up VERY quickly!
**I try to use LOCAL and ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY options where possible!**
It's absolutely amazing what can be accomplished when we utilize one another for support. When I served in the US Air Force, we always accomplished more when we worked as a team - I take that same outlook when approaching the music...or anything else in life for that matter. I'll be posting updates and sharing exclusive videos and tracks with you all along the way...but be sure to join me on my sites below as well. I love staying in touch with everyone.
