On the Threshold is an 11 year old's narrative of the journey taken by 6 kids applying to public middle schools in Houston, Texas.

On the Threshold is a documentary film project by Winch Eagleton. 

I'm a 5th grader and will be applying to public middle schools this winter because my zoned school isn't very good. There is a lot riding on this. I'm scared that if I don't get into a good middle school, I won't get into a good high school, then I won't get into a good college (if college would even be an option) and ultimately I won't get a good job. I don't think I'm the only kid that feels this way. And I don't think parents and teachers know how stressful this process is.

On the Threshold will follow 6 kids from 3 three different schools as they apply to public middle schools in Houston, Texas. The film will also include interviews with the kid's parents and teachers to round out the picture of what the kids are experiencing. I feel its time for the kids' voices to be heard. Lots of adults are talking about education and make a big deal about it but they never ask us what we think.

My biggest challenge is I'm 11 years old and I don't know if many people will take me seriously but I have a good plan and the support of my family, friends, teachers and principal.

The next biggest challenge for me will be the tight timeframe to document each step of the process; pre Magnet Week interviews, Magnet Week tour interviews, post Magnet week interviews, completion & submission of applications, the long wait, acceptance/rejection outcome & interviews, and where each student decides to go. Good pre-planning is key. My mom, Ann Eagleton, will be there to keep me on track.

Another challenge will be working with the school district and individual schools to gain camera access to their buildings. In-school footage would be nice but not critical to telling the story.

My equipment will be another challenge. A lot of the money I need will go towards upgrading my sound equipment. In addition, I will be purchasing a few camera accessories to make sure the camera work is steady. Any extra money raised will go towards upgrading my camera.
