Cooking with Quaker Anne. Classes & free online videos. Wholesome foods that taste great & are economical to prepare. Healthy home-style recipes.
To renovate and expand an existing kitchen space into a commercial community kitchen to host larger onsite classes with student work stations and updated equipment. Our onsite classes teach traditional, basic and advanced cooking skills - including bread baking, cheese making and food preservation. They feature locally grown foods in season whenever possible, as well as Fair Trade products, and cultivate healthy, economical food choices. We teach food related skills using both modern and sometimes even old fashioned, non-electric appliances.
At The Quaker Kitchen, we teach modern cooking techniques and often integrate traditional old-style cooking methods which have timeless value for their economy and efficiency; methods that are not always easy to acquire instruction in - such as how to can and/or freeze fresh fruits, vegetables and meats, how to make homemade yogurt and ice cream, and even how to pick the best pumpkins, apples or other fresh produce to make really home-made pies, jams or jellies! Plus, so much more! Students learn practical cooking skills which will give them confidence in the kitchen and help them to make nourishing meals for a lifetime.
The new kitchen will also be upgraded with equipment to further our ability to film future quality classes, to be featured as part of the ongoing, online cooking video series available to view for free at The Quaker Kitchen web site: http://TheQuakerKitchen.com Future videos will be closed captioned.
This undertaking is a part of Quaker Farm's 25 year mission to promote locally grown foods and teach sustainable living skills that foster wellness, self-sufficiency and community consciousness: http://www.QuakerFarm.com
We not only educate and encourage people to cook and eat nourishing food, but also teach them the long term value of establishing and maintaining an ongoing connection with wholesome food sources likely to be found in their own local communities as well.
The positive impact of this creative project is potentially far reaching due to these classes being available as free-to-view online videos.
We deeply appreciate your pledge consideration and hope you will pass our project on to others who might be interested in our work. Thank you very much for supporting The Quaker Kitchen!
