About this project
Brujas is an independently produced, ultra-low budget feature-length movie. While it features a mix of genre styles and elements including horror, fantasy, romance, low-key melodrama, action and adventure, it is primarily a supernatural suspense thriller. The movie has already been shot (in Panasonic Hmc 1080p, 24fps).. We would also like to hold a large screening on February 11th 2012 in Sacramento, CA for the actors and crew members and their friends and family. The screening will be open to the public. All of our actors and crew members have been working with us on a volunteer basis, and we would like to repay them for their effort. Watch the trailer above to get a sneak peek at some of the rough footage from the movie. We invite you to continue reading and if inclined to do so, to contribute to our cause.
What does Brujas mean? "Brujas" means "witches," in Spanish. In terms of the movie it is a term used for more mysterious witches, the likes you have rarely seen before.
The Story follows a group of people linked together by a dark figure and an inexplicable force. Maria, played by the beautiful and talented Tatiana Bedoya, is a tragic figure with a secret past and a key role in the mystery. International actress Nora Peña plays both Sharon, Maria's daughter searching for the truth about her past, and Terri, her twin sister with a sinister upbringing. Virgle Debord is Chris, a simple, daydreaming construction worker who is captivated by the twins' beauty and mystery. Nia, played by Deanna Light, is Chris's girlfriend who is determined to find out the truth about Brujas, and up-and-coming rap artist Duce Brown plays Chris's friend and Nia's partner in her journey. Last but not least, is Saul (Jeff Palmer), a bounty hunter that shares a link to Maria's past. And that is just part of the characters and cast you will encounter in our movie!
How Kickstarter Works: The awesome thing about Kickstarter is that your contribution won't go to waste! If the combined total of all pledges for our project meets our $10,000 goal, then the credit cards of those who pledge are charged and we receive the funds to finish our project. If we don't meet our goal, then the money is not withdrawn from your account. If we meet our goal, all pledges receive a cool reward from us based on how much they pledged. Look on the sidebar on the right to check out the rewards!
The Filmmakers: HC Video Productions is a small independent company that we started earlier this year. The production for Brujas has consisted of various film students as well as film school graduates, local talent, up-and-comers, and film aficionados. Heading the production are the Hilbert brothers, Edgar A. Hilbert (Director/Screenwriter), and Marcos Hilbert (Director of Photography). The movie is a family affair, produced in collaboration with Edgar and Leticia Hilbert whom have a background in theater production. This being such an ultra-low budget production, however, every member of the crew has their hand in various aspects of the film-making process. Why twin witches? Isn't that trite and clichéd? Many people think of witches as out-of-date and old fashioned. That's why Brujas is taking a different, more modern approach to the subject. But don't think we are the only ones. Zombies, vampires, and werewolves have all had their popularity in the last few years, but now witches are making a comeback. From TV shows like ABC's Once Upon a Time, and The CW's The Secret Circle, to movies like Universal's Snow White and the Hunstman, witches are everywhere these days. Twin story-lines as well have always been popular and continue to be, as evidenced by the success of The CW's Ringer. While we cannot comment on the quality of any of those projects, and while those projects do not reflect or inspire our movie, they are just proof that the subject of twin witches is not at all irrelevant today. In fact, our movie aims to expand and reinvent all of our preconceptions on the subject.
