In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Jazz Arts Group and Byron Stripling’s 10th anniversary as Artistic Director of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, a new recording by the orchestra is planned for 2012. Mr. Stripling’s vision for the recording is that it will be a fusion of styles, influences, and genres to portray the relevance and sound of our 21st century big band. "Come Together" will showcase the high powered, passionate CJO and be packed with blues, ballads, and fiery Latin rhythms.
"Come Together" will feature commissioned new works and commissioned arrangements including*:
Play it Again Samba
Saint Louis Blues
Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child
Down by the Riverside
My Father’s Eyes
Recording will take place at the Lincoln Theatre and is slated to begin in the summer of 2012. The CD will be available for public purchase at the end of 2012 via Amazon.com, iTunes, and at CJO concerts.
A limited number of special funding opportunities are available for individuals and/or businesses to underwrite the cost of the CD’s production.
Contributions at all levels are welcome.
*Selections and guest artists are tentative
