About this project
This project is for the production and release of an 8-track album of Northern Cameroon band Wam Kara, an extremely talented band that fuses traditional and modern music and instruments.
Based in Garoua, Cameroon, and resident at the Alliance Franco-Camerounaise, Wam Kara have been together for 4 years, and are well known and popular in the North Province. However they have been blocked from progressing and becoming known in the country by not having the funds to release their album.
Members are Alfa Barry--garaya; Thierry Haman--guitar; Housseini Saint Aime--bass; Augusto Kara--calabash, and Djasrabe--drums. We are looking to raise between $1,000 and $1,800 for the production of these cds and one music video, which will be produced locally in Cameroon or Nigeria. If we reach $1,000 the CDs can be produced, though at the lowest level. If we reach $1,800 the CDs can be produced at a higher quality, so obviously we're hoping to reach that level!
Check out their video on youtube of the group performing their song Nane Le, before judges in Garoua, to represent the North Province of Cameroon in the Festival of Arts and Culture (FENAC), held in Maroua in 2008. They went on to be chosen to represent their province, beating out all other groups from the North, and at the festival they won "Best group/performance" of the 10 regional representatives in Cameroon.

I love creating, love making things. Painting, drawing, writing, dancing, and sewing are my favorite artistic pursuits. I just finished up 2.5 years as an agroforestry volunteer in northern Cameroon, where I met Wam Kara, the talented musicians whose CD release we are raising money for.
