The importance of good, fun books!
Writing a children’s book is something I, Tiffany, have always wanted to do. For one thing, I think literacy is so important.
I have enjoyed reading for as long as I can remember. As a child, I’d come to the kitchen table for breakfast with my nose in the book and sometimes you could even hear me bumping into walls in the hallway on my way there because I was so engrossed in whatever I was reading that I didn’t want to stop from the time it took me to get from my bedroom to the kitchen. I often spilled milk down the front of my shirt because, let’s be honest, it’s hard to read and eat at the same time.
All that to say, when people would tell me they hated reading I’d feel sorry for them. They are missing out on such great, big adventures! I may not ever go to the Taj Mahal, but through books I can have that experience through someone else’s stories.
One thing I really believe is that everyone would love books IF they found the type of book that really resonates with them. For some people that means discovering travel books. For another it may be only reading nonfiction, such as history books. And others lean more toward romance novels, comic books or science fiction.
But some people give up on reading long before they find that genre that sings to their soul.
That’s why I want to write books that will bring children into the world of books early and captivate them, so they can have a lifetime of adventures through reading. Once you learn to enjoy reading, you can learn anything you want. Especially with the internet and libraries today, there isn’t a subject in the world that can’t be researched.
So, that’s why I think people should support this book project. Not because it will teach children about math or science, which are important skills, but because it is a book about fun. And hopefully that will be enough to draw them in and set them up for a life of learning.
Just one book is enough to change someone’s mind from thinking reading is boring to it being a great, big adventure.
And this tale is all about adventure. Just watch Preston as he journeys through the kitchen to learn about courage. We know this isn’t a serious book and to us, that’s OK. That doesn’t mean it’s not important. Let’s give kids a fun book that will make them want to continue reading for a lifetime.
