Project Description:
http://ultimatespacebook.wordpress.com/ - Homepage of the Space Book Concept
We have created the biggest space educational program in Eastern Europe - Space Challenges (http://spaceedu.net). After uniting leading specialists from around the globe into this multidisciplinary initiative we realized that we could bring space even closer to many young people who have never had access to such education. It became obvious that an enormous number of young people, especially outside of US, have never had the opportunity to read a well written and accessible book about space. Therefore, the concept for creating an interactive book came about somewhat naturally. We aim at creating a Space Book without precedent – both in paper and as an iPad application that will encompass all essential aspects of space science and technology that will present space in an entertaining and artistic way.
The Space Book is envisioned as a hybrid between art and science with multidisciplinary content, which will bring our universe closer to thousands of young people.
This will be an illustrated, up-to-date, full-length book with multiple graphics. It should become the ultimate guide to space science and technology, combining the knowledge of many leading scientists and technologists with the sci-fi visions of talented young illustrators. Our goal is to inspire young people from all over the world to look at space in a different way and to realize the integral connection between art and science. We are already developing the content and have managed to assemble a team of space professionals and illustrators. What we need now is your financial support to produce this book and app.
Why is this Space Book is so important?
The importance of generating interest towards space science and technology has become evident over the past few years. Many young people grow up without ever understanding how essential space is for modern society. Just imagine our life without telecommunication, navigation, or Earth observation services. Most of us underappreciate the importance of space exploration for the development of humanity due to lack of information.
The biggest incentive for learning and understanding has always been the fascination of understanding the world around us. Our book’s main aim is to inspire the curiosity and the imagination of many young people and to educate them about space. It became clear that we could achieve our goal only through combining the beauty of art with the precision of technology and the knowledge of science.
The Space Book will inspire, entertain, and challenge the minds of the young people by opening a vast new horizon. It will also popularize the work of thousands of scientists and give credit to their achievements.
This project will help us to better understand ourselves, our world, and our mission on Earth as human beings. It aims to bring many young people together and the Space Book will inspire and enlighten us all in many ways.
What’s inside the book and app?
The book and the app will combine the knowledge of space science with unique art expression. It will be the ultimate guide to the universe. We are engaging world-leading experts in the field and gathering the most valuable information. In essence the project will be hybrid between art and science with multidisciplinary content. We have chosen to present the technical development of humanity in a different and entertaining way where science meets and fuses with art. The book and the app will offer information about:
- Space science
- Space missions and human spaceflight
- Space technologies and engineering
- Artificial intelligence and robotics
- Search for extraterrestrial life forms
- Space policy and law
- Future studies and forecasting
The Space Book and the application will give you all of this information related to space. Now we need your financial support to create it and make it go viral.
What you will receive in return?
- Membership to the Space Book Society (all supporters of the initiative will always be recognized as such)
- Space Book postcard
- Space Book official T-shirt
- Limited print edition of the book signed by the authors
- Unique painting with one of the illustrations in the book, signed by the author
- Co-Founder credit: as Co-Founder of the Space Book project, we will feature you on your very own page – your photo, your bio and a link to the website of your choice
What will we do with the money?
We'll use the money to develop the book concept and the iPad application. All the content will be assembled and edited. Original art illustrations and graphics will be designed and customized.
Making an idea go viral is no easy task. The app will be free and accessible. It will offer you the chance to participate in open discussions on all topics relevant to space. Furthermore, we aim at distributing copies of the book free of charge in as many high schools and colleges around the world as possible.
For the people without an ipad, there will be a free PDF version. If we raise enough funds, we will also launch the project for other platforms like Android – this way anyone with an internet connection would be able to access the content, read it, learn, and participate in open discussions.
We want to teach the young people that space is actually accessible and amazing. We want to prove that science, technology, and art can coexist in a common environment. The Space Book initiative aims at inspiring STEM education and at creating a strong community of supporters for science and technology progress.
This project is the first step towards a longer-term vision and we are convinced that it will positively change people’s perception of life on Earth as well.
