When I served on the Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Advisory Board, I successfully blocked a move by the DMV to deny driver's licenses to people who had used "any counseling services", including marriage counseling. I stood up for civil rights and common sense. Seeing that at the time (turn of the millenium) 90% of women inpatients in Nevada's mental hospitals had been past victims of rape and / or childhood sexual abuse, I stood up for the physical and psychological safety of women by successfully influencing mental hospital design to provide separate areas for male and female inpatients.
