I wanted to let you know that the Mexican Drug War Issue of Words without Borders is now live on our site: http://wordswithoutborders.org/issue/march-2012. Once again, many, many thanks to all who contributed to this amazing project. I encourage you to share your thoughts on the issue with us in the comments section of this update. Posted project update #5Well that teaches me to be pessimistic . . .
Dear Everyone,
Thank you, thank you, thank you! We hit our $10,000 goal and have fully funded the March 2012: Mexican Drug War Issue. Almost $6,000 raised in a single 24 hour period thanks to our board of directors and their generous support I work for a truly incredible organization.
Late today I will be sending out the surveys for those of you who have asked to receive a reward. It will be sent from Kickstarter so please keep an eye out. Once again, many thanks.
Best,
Joshua Mandelbaum

Posted project update #3EPUB files for everyone
Post CommentDear Friends,
We clearly missed the obvious on Friday when we offered an EPUB file at the $5 level but did not offer it at the other levels. That has changed. At all levels we are now offering an optional EPUB file of the Mexican Drug War Issue. If we're successful we'll ask you in the survey if you'd like the file e-mailed to you.
Best,
Joshua

Posted project update #2A New Reward and a change for Table & Pen
Post CommentDear Friends,
With just 16 days left in the campaign we're offering some new enticements. First, for those of you not on a Kindle we're offering a EPUB of the issue for a pledge of $5. We'll actually be launching e-reader files with the March Issue an this is a great way to get things started.
Second, for those of you interested in our critically acclaimed anthology, Tablet & Pen: Literary Landscapes from the Modern Middle East, you now only need to pledge $40 to receive a copy of that anthology.
Please consider pledging at either level and then letting your friends know about our campaign.
Best,Joshua

Posted project update #1What to expect in the Mexican Drug War Issue
Post CommentHi Everyone,
Just got word from our editorial team that some of the translations for the Mexican Drug War Issue have come in so I'm able to tell you a bit more about what's in the issue. Work featured will include extracts from Magali Tercero’s reporting on living under "drugtatorship", "Notes on the Violence in Sinaloa, Mexico," Rafael Perez Gay’s short story "Road to Juarez," in which a man’s senile father claims to have been an undercover federal agent infiltrating a drug cartel, Fabrizio Mejia Madrid’s nonfiction piece, "The Mystery of the Parakeet, the Rooster, and the Goat," based on statements made by drug lord Ricardo ”El Valde” Valderrama, and Luis Felipe Fabre’s poem "Notes on a Theme of a Zombie Cataclysm." Guest editor Carmen Boullosa is interviewed on how the drug war has impacted writers directly and also contributes a poem mourning all that Mexico has lost. Translations still to come include Hector de Mauleon, Yuri Herrera, Rafael Lemus, and Juan Villoro.
There's only 20 days left. Please help us spread the word.
Best,
Joshua

Hi Joshua,
Imagine my surprise when I got an email from Amazon saying they’d billed me for your project. After all, it wasn’t that long ago I sent a donation in response to your email saying you wouldn’t make your goal, and could we donate through another avenue. Fortunately, I hadn’t pledged so much that donating twice would break the bank. But I do feel misled.
BK
Oops, poking around your website, I found "Update 4," which didn't make it to my inbox. I see you addressed the issue of donating twice. This blog doesn't allow deletes or edits, though, and electronic recalls are silly. Thanks.
BK
Hi Beth,
I actually sent you an e-mail on Sunday asking about how you'd like to proceed. I'll go ahead and refund your Paypal donation.
Many thanks for your support.
Best,
Joshua
