Becky Peters

Washington D.C., DC

I am an actor who wanted to shake things up and find a way to use my love of the arts and my desire to be more involved in my community so...I became the Artistic Director and co-founder for an arts outreach company called Wandering Souls. Based in Washington DC and heading into our 3rd season it's been a dream figuring out how to make it all work.

    Long overdue update!

Hello our fellow Wandering Souls --

With 12 hours to go and the fact that all of you amazingly generous folks have made it possible for us to truly bring this project to life I thought it would be good to fill you in a bit on how it's all progressing....

On September 3 we presented Reflections for the first time at the 10th Annual Page to Stage Festival at the Kennedy Center and it was the beginning of phase 2 where we start playing with how to bring these plays to life.  Wandering Souls hasn't been a part of the Festival before so it was a thrill but the icing on the cake was having the playwrights in the room dressed in their finest.  Joy.

Since then we have been working with the cast and the playwrights to not only strengthen the scripts but also to create additional short writings which will help bring the show together as a whole.

I need to gush for a minute and say that it's an fantastic team we have on this project.  Andy (teacher/director) has been fearlessly and tirelessly leading this since early in the year...Elissa (Associate Director) has been helping us focus the script and figure out the next project that we hope to work on with Saint Elizabeths...Sarah (Stage Manager) and Dan (Designer) are simply wonderful with what they bring to the table...and the cast.  The cast is an incredibly caring group of folks who from day one have been focused on making sure that they do everything they can to give all they can (and more) to these scripts.  And I haven't mentioned the score of volunteers we have helping us make this happen.  Simply it's the right crew for this project and that makes an Artistic Director incredibly happy.

We are 2 weeks away from Opening Night on October 1 and there's a lot to do still but that's the exciting part of theater.   I do hope you will join us for opening night -- RSVP here.

I leave you with this thought - Andy shared with us last week that when he escorts our playwrights back to their wings at the hospital after rehearsal that he notices that they are beaming.  Beaming.  Doesn't that just say it all?

Again, I hope you can join us for opening  but if you can't there's 4 more chances to see a public show - mark your calendars!

Thank you for making this a reality...

    Becky

    I can't believe it!

    Hello all you wonderful benefactors!
(Becky, Wandering Souls Artistic Director here....)

First things first - I simply am in awe of you and the generosity with which each of you have shown towards Wandering Souls and in particular Reflections.  It amazes me that at the halfway point in our fundraising goal we are more than half way to the finish line.  I am in awe.

    How's the show going?

I also wanted to share with you where we are in the project.  The playwrights finished their classes and now our co-directors, dramaturge and the writers are in the process of figuring out how it is all going to fit together.  If you have been following our Facebook or Twitter feed you might have seen how much I am learning from and being inspired by these playwrights.  It truly is a joy to work with these 5 individuals and I am learning more and more about the power of just letting someone share their story.

Next week we introduce our actors into the room and what a fine cast they are!  We have 6 local actors who will be joining us in the room to bring these plays to life and just as in other new play rehearsals the playwrights will be in the room working with them.  Can't wait!

Join us for 2 important events!

    1. Sunday, August 28th from 3 - 7 pm:  Join us at The Getaway in Columbia Heights (NW DC) for a "get-to-know-us" fundraiser.  The great part is that just by showing up and having something to eat or drink The Getaway will donate a portion of the proceeds back to us!  So, please come out.  Bring friends.  It's an easy going day so drop in for a little bit or hang out the whole time.  RSVP here so we know to look for you.  And by all means - please forward it along to friends!

    2. Saturday, September 3 at 1 pmPage to Stage at the Kennedy Center   For the first time Wandering Souls will be taking part in this wonderful festival and this will be the first time that the Reflections plays and the framework will be read for a public audience.  And we are looking for feedback!  The festival falls right at the beginning of rehearsals so the opportunity to hear feedback and make adjustments at this point is a wonderful opportunity.  The reading is free (as are all the readings at Page to Stage) and we do hope to see you there!

    One more thing...

Thank you all for your support thus far...and if I may be so bold can I ask one more thing of you?   Would you kindly tell someone or someones about Wandering Souls?  Ask people to join you as a Kickstarter backer so we can reach our goal.  Facebook/Tweet about the show or the fundraiser this Sunday.  Send an email to your co-workers or neighborhood. Word of mouth is our best friend and you are our cherished advocates for this work.

Thank you again and I will be in touch soon!
