Posted project update #4Article in the Sun Sentinel today: Filmmaker working on Ricky Williams sequel
Post CommentFilmmaker working on Ricky Williams sequel
Creator of ESPN documentary on Ricky Williams has more to tell
By Andrew Carter, Sun Sentinel
When Sean Pamphilon completed "Run Ricky Run," – thedocumentary about Ricky Williams that appeared on ESPN as part of the network's "30-for-30" series – Pamphilon felt good about what he'd created.
He had portrayed Williams in a way rarely before seen. He'd helped his audience better understand Williams, the enigmatic Miami Dolphins free agent running back who spoke openly in the documentary about his tumultuous past and about his temporary, partly self-imposed exile from the NFL.
"I'm very proud of that film – I love it," Pamphilon said recently.
Except there was one problem: He had so much more material – far more than the 50 minutes allotted for "Run Ricky Run." Which brings Pamphilon, a Seattle-based filmmaker, to where he is now – pitching a sort of gonzo journalism sequel entitled "The Truth Cabin."

Posted project update #310% of PROFITS going to the Ricky Williams Foundation
Post CommentIn addition to 10% of the net profits of, The Truth Cabin, going to the United Negro College Fund, an additional 10% will be donated to the Ricky Williams Foundation.
The Ricky Williams Foundation (RWF) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3), organized to provide tutorial services, public speaking programs and sports camps that promote health and fitness. With your help and/or participation, the Ricky Williams Foundation will make great strides towards helping equip youth with the fundamental skills to be successful in life. RWF's mission is to be instrumental in the economic, social and educational development of at-risk individuals from low social-economic communities as well as be a major player in raising funds for world-wide disaster relief by partnering with other not-for-profits.
Ricky was inspired to start the foundation because he wanted to give back to under served communities. He did not want to be defined as simply a professional football player. Instead, he wants to be characterized as a leader in his community with social consciousness and empathy for the struggles impoverished communities face. " I don't want my legacy to be that I was simply a good running back in the National Football League. My commitment to join forces with other charitable organizations in an effort to help those in need is very important to me and I hope it will further define who I am as an individual".

Posted project update #2My level, a poem I wrote in 2007 about my relationship with Ricky
Post Commentyesterday we sat on the floor
in his near empty kitchen
voices cascading across the expansive linoleum
speaking of being seniors in college
with broken hearts, as our first loves
both chose the embrace of another...
...just as we were putting our big boy pants on
ready to take on the world, we also lost
the extended comfort of their families'
and
retreated
to the dysfunction of our own...
yesterday, we sat in his kitchen
with no cameras in sight
the distant smell of our first lady loves, in the air
legs stretched comfortably across the floor...
and in that brief moment, we were brothers
who grew up with estranged mothers and father's
putting ourselves to sleep...
and he told me, THIS, was the good stuff,
we should indeed be shooting...
But if I broke my camera out,
he never would have come down to my level... -
