    Next steps.

We only have six days left on our kickstarter campaign. I dont foresee a miracle and a magical pot of gold appearing anytime soon, so I think its fair to say that we wont make that goal. To those that made pledges and tried to lend a hand, we Thank You very much!! We will send you a special little gift even though we wont be taking your money! ;) Just watched the final cut for the Spanish Version w/subtitles last night with some first time viewers and it got a really good response!!
Now, it is time for us to focus on getting a solid film rep to carry out foreign sales and get it into the market.  We will also continue to post updates listing any festivals it gets accepted to - even if we are not there in person, we would like to let others in that area know to look for our film and try to go and see it!
Again, thank you for your support - we hope to see all of you locals at the AFF this year!!

Is it Impossible? Hell, I dont know.

Wow.  We really appreciate those of you who could support our project during these tough economic times, that is first and foremost in our minds.  The next thing that I think is, "how in the hell is it even possible to raise the rest of our goal?"  If we dont make it, we dont get anything - our sponsors dont pay and we have to come up with some other idea.
You know what?  Its okay.  Christian, Richard and I have always had to fight and fight hard to acheive what we have done in the past - nothing good comes without struggle.  So, if a miracle occurs, that will be great.  If it doesn't, we will survive that too.  Kinda have to be realistic.
To our friends and supporters, again I say thank you - we appreciate it very much.

Nine "thank yous"...would love to say that many more times!

Well, at least we know there are nine human beings on planet Earth who think HYT is a project worth supporting, and for that, we thank those stellar, brilliant, perceptive individuals!

(I know, I am laying it on you all a little thick there, but just take the compliment!) We only have a few days left, and speaking with some others I know that some of our goal is likely to come in right before the deadline - can we make it?  I sure hope so.

So, if you havent already, please share this link with your friends and ask them to please take a moment, visit our page and make a pledge.  We dont know quit, so we keep going!  Here's hoping we see a successful end to this campaign.

Thanks again for your support - we truly appreciate it!

    Robert

    So...thats it?

I just noticed that more than 230 people clicked the "like" button...but only seven people actually supported the project.  This begs the question, what does "like" mean?  It reminds me of when I was a boy and you over heard a couple of girls talking about other boys..."well, I dont mean 'like, like' you know? I just like him, but not 'like, like' him".

Got it.  This usually means, (If I still understand anything about the very strange language of teenaged girls that is) that, while the aforementioned young lady may not think this particular guy is a complete loser and sucks as a human being...she is not about to be seen at a party with him.  With compliments like these, why would a person every need to be insulted?

I am starting to suspect a similar phenomenon at work here.  Sure, some people "like" our project...but they dont "like, like" it.  AKA, they dont really like it enough to become supporters and help us make the project a real success...which begs the question: why like it at all then?    I am somewhat famous for being pretty direct, even blunt - I cant help it, its in my DNA apparently.  In this case though, I am merely trying to wrap my head around the concept of what (exactly) is it worth to say like then at all - "I understand you need my help, but all I can tell you is that I like what your doing, keep it up."  Not only are we no further along, but your response defies the definition of like...YES, I mean "like, like".  Sigh... I would have had better luck pitching this to a bunch of teenagers.  At least they would understand the point.

I want to ask you a direct question and the only way to respond directly and in the affirmative is by making a pledge.  Do you REALLY like Hombre Y Tierra...Yes, ladies and germs, I mean as in "like, like"?  Like you would go out on a date with Hombre, you would introduce Hombre to your parents...you would like to have Hombre's children. (Okay, maybe that is taking the metaphor to far, but youre getting the picture)  Then do what you do when you really do care about something...support it.  We need your support or, guess what? Hombre is going to the dance alone, unescorted, no one will be there to tell everyone else what a great movie he is, how the cool kids are missing out if they miss this movie, etc.  And then, Hombre will come home.  No late night after parties, where he gets to meet distributors, no call backs...nada.

And ten years from now, I will still be wondering why he is living in my basement.  How do you "like, like" that?

    My open letter to Kickstarter

In an effort to get our project featured, this is what I sent to Kickstarter

    Dear Kickstarter,

Subject: What do I have to do?

Whatever it is, I'll do it. I don’t care. I am not kidding. You want me to stand naked in the street and send you a picture, I will. You want me to slap a cop and let him tase me, I'm there. I am willing to slather myself in Strawberry Jam and stand in an ant pile. I will make a baby cry, HARD...if you will only feature our project. So, tell me what insane quest I must accomplish and I will get to work right away. Want me to hog tie Godzilla? I can get that done...I'll just need some rope...and maybe the Japanese Army, but no problem. Thank you, and please consider this in the spirit in which it was meant. Desperate, slightly off balance, totally committed and totally Cereal.
    Gracias!

Despite Down Economy Local Production Company Perseveres

TMI Launches Festival Campaign For Spanish Language Feature HOMBRE Y TIERRA.
    • Austin, TX, August 25, 2011 - HOMBRE Y TIERRA, (aka Man And Earth)
Starring Mauricio Ripke, Directed by Christian Cisneros and Written by Richard Watson.
Produced by The Moving Image Company, a Texas-based Production Company.

    GET TOUGH OR DIE.

“When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” Executive Producer Robert Stewart repeats a time worn phrase when describing the position he and his partners at The Moving Image Company faced in 2010. “It was all about funding, the economy tanked and a lot of entities that had previously been interested in funding for Independent Feature Films just sort of disappeared – poof – just gone.” Robert and Company Founder and long time friend, Christian Cisneros, realized it was, as he puts it, “Get tough or die time.”

“Christian and I had already seen a lot of people de-camp Austin for opportunities elsewhere, Louisiana, New Mexico and other states – just to stay in the industry. We just didn’t want to cut and run. Austin is home.” So, they had to come up with a plan - and quick.

No funding sources. A bad economy and next to nothing on the horizon to make them believe that it would get better anytime soon. “I told Christian, ‘Producers produce.’ We have to create a project we can afford to fund on our own.” That idea became the company’s mission.

“We figured, if we’re going to go down, we might as well go down swinging. Everyone says its madness to use your own money to produce movies – but it was actually kind of liberating. Scary, yes, but it also came with a freedom to do it exactly as we decided it should be.”

They reviewed numerous stories, scripts and books but nothing would fit the plan. Finally, they focused on a suspense story penned by fellow partner Richard Watson. That story was entitled, The Woodsman, what would later become the Spanish language Feature Film HOMBRE Y TIERRA, starring a actor who is well known to film makers in Central Texas, Mauricio Ripke.

    A DARK TALE.

“This story is very tight, very focused, and according to our plan it was a film we could actually produce within the budget we could had to work with”, Robert relates. Along the way, as the production took shape, the film makers decided to do something very unique – the film was shot in two languages. One entire version shot in English and one in Spanish. “Essentially, we shot two films at the same time and we don’t know of another film ever being produced this way.”

Hombre Y Tierra is the tale of Mauro Bosque: a Columbian TV personality who teaches survival tactics and the film relates the strange details of his final journey. After entering the San Ignacio forests of central Belize he disappears and is never seen again. Entertained as a child by his grandmothers stories of a missing Mayan settlement and their legendary caves filled with artifacts, (rumored to be hidden within this forest and waiting to be found) Mauro seeks to locate them for his program – what he uncovers, what he records on camera, is something as primeval and deadly as the forest itself.

    GET CREATIVE OR STAY HOME.

Now The Moving Image Company has completed the film and is submitting to festivals around the country. To support this effort they have launched a campaign at Kickstarter.com to raise funds to promote the film at festivals around the country. The campaign features unique and one of a kind film memorabilia that supporters can receive in return for supporting this creative and unique production. The film makers are extremely upbeat about the film’s prospects going forward. “It is an interesting and suspenseful story, the production was unique and we feel sure people will want to see a film made here in Texas, but that also has a truly “international” feel to it. A Foreign Film, Made In Texas.” Robert smiles. “Brilliant or Crazy? We’ll let the audience decide. ”
