Posted project update #5Important Information for Clothing the Line Supporters
Post CommentDear Clothing the Line Supporters,
Thank you all for your amazing support for Clothing the Line over the last few weeks!
We are changing our fund-raising venue from Kickstarter to our own web-site using Fractured Atlas, a national non-profit artist service organization. Importantly, this will allow all donations to Clothing the Line to be tax-detectable donations - something that was missing from our current fund-raiser. We also discovered that they charge a lower processing fee, so more of the money you donate will go directly to the project.
As we are canceling our drive on Kickstarter, none of the pledges you have made will go through and you will not be charged for anything you pledged. At this time it would be awesome if you would donate what you pledged directly to the project at www.clothingtheline.com
Right now, Ana and I are working tirelessly to secure partners, sponsors, and permits and create relationships with established organizations working with the homeless. We are sure that this new mode of fund-raising will open more possibilities for donations and allow us to continue securing the partners and permits we need to make this project a success.
We thank you in advance for your donation and we will keep you updated about the progress.
With Regards,
Jon Morris

Greg, thank you so much for your question! Clothing the Line is not meant to give money or clothes to homeless people. I agree with you. For that it would be much easier just raise it and give it to them. These things will be part of the project. But not the biggest goal. 1 - We want to open a space for discussion about the homeless critical situation in NYC. Unfortunately these days, the traditional communication campaigns are not being as much effective as they should. We, from the Windmill Factory will use this art project as a tool to let our partners, the homeless organizations, express their thoughts and needs. It is not a welfare project. We want to spark long term policy changes while giving more space to people meet some homeless organizations that make amazing work in this city. 2 - Other important factor is that we hope through the art be able to touch people emotions. Certainly this will turn much more effective the process of transmitting the messages that need to be told. The performances and the installation (which will give a visual dimension of the problem) will let people have a closer interpretation about what is to be a homeless. 3 - Besides that, other thing that makes the project more interesting then just giving money, is that we will have some of the people that are living on shelter working with us. This is just a temporary project, but if we can empower some of this people, and remind them that they are able to fight for changing their realities, we will be very very happy. If this project changes the destiny of at least one person, all our effort to make it happen will be more then worthy. This is a non profit project. We will donate all the profits to the homeless organizations. Kickstarter is the first part of our fundraising strategy and it is important to make the first phases happen. Other things will come, and in few months the homeless organizations will be able to ask for donations throughout the project. The money raised will go direct to them. Greg, was I clear enough (sorry for my english!)? Do you agree that Clothing the Line will make a smart use of the money, and be the ignition for the attraction of not only more money, but attention to the homeless cause? Let me know if you have more questions! Ana
