Posted project update #8Feb 2012 Release // Fall Tour // Your Reward Packages!
dear friends,
tomorrow is september. I love september. the wondrous first day of school that I miss so dearly, the perfect weather to bike around without getting your clothes all sweaty, and it means that parsnip season is right around the corner.
as you know, my plan was to release this album in september. it seemed like a reasonable timeline. in fact, the albums themselves finally arrived today, and HOLY MOLY do they look gorgeous:

the month of august, however, proved to be one of the most exciting months to date in the life of my singer/songwriter-business-persona (Mavis? Tabitha?) meaning, although I've been spending most of my time in front of a computer or on the phone with a coffee in my hand, the wheels have been turning. and things are cookin. it's not my favorite place to be, and I wish I could just be lying on a couch or recording some songs in my pajamas, but this business-computer-face-place is an important place to start.HERE'S THE REALLY AMAZING & EXCITING NEWS: thanks to all of this computer-face-nonsense, some folks have taken an interest in helping me release this record right. some folks that I really admire. I don't want to jinx anything yet, so I'll just say that I'm excited about them and excited about everything, really. I'm still releasing this as my own independent label, but am slowly working to put a team together who will help me navigate the big scary world of the music industry.
so, the plan!
first off, rather than the record coming out in September, it will now be officially released in February of 2012. it will be a big to-do, and I can't wait.
of course, I will still be sending out your super pre-release Kickstarter packages far before that. they should be out by the end of September and I'll send you an update when they're in the mail! if you've moved since March, please send me a message with your updated mailing address!
I'm still going to go out on a solo preview tour this fall, the dates are listed below! I will have super-secret advanced copies (kind of like the ones you'll be receiving) during the tour, but I won't be selling any online or through physical distribution yet. so, if you want your friends to have the album, bring them to the show this fall! in the spring, when the record is nationally released, I'll be hitting the road for multiple tours with a Full. Band. there will also be new merch and I'm sure some new goodies for those of you for whom this record will be old hat. I have a feeling it's going to be a busy year.
it's because of you great folks that all of this exciting stuff even happened at all. and I'm so stoked on the record, and we put oh-so-much of our sweaty hearts into it, that I want to make sure we do this up in a big way, reaching as many people as possible. thanks so much for your support, and I truly hope I get to see you and give you a giant hug in your town this fall.
love,
anna.

Posted project update #7SUCCESS, PART ONE.
Post Commenthey there wonderful people,
it's been an amazing month! i hope your month has been amazing as well! my plan was to keep you updated regularly as we were in the studio, but beyond good old daily facebooking, we were insanely focused on the process and many things fell to the wayside, including but not limited to blogging, voicemails, emails, and keeping normal human hours. the studio was such a blast and all-brain-encompassing in the best possible way.
it was definitely a whole crazy amount of work to get done in under three weeks, but we did it, and - if i do say so myself - we did it pretty damn well. i am so thrilled with how it's sounding, and the musicians and friends on this album were just impeccable & oh-so-inspiring to work with. here's a photo of THE GIANT CHART in its full completion:

the fact that we got this all done in such a short amount of time still baffles me. and we wouldn't have been able to be IN the studio at all if it weren't for your generosity. thank you so much again.
we're currently mixing AND starting to flesh out the artwork & MAN i'm so thrilled that i feel like a kid sitting on my hands trying not to open a giant gift (which is basically just a pony with a bow on it) right in front of me. meaning! there is still so much to do but it's getting closer and i can't wait until i can give these songs to everyone! the album is set for a september release date, with pre-release copies going out to you fine folk in august. i'll be sending out questionnaires over the next week in order to get your backing rewards to you when the time comes; please make sure to fill out your information so you can be justly rewarded for your amazingness!
lastly, i'll leave you with the closest thing there is to actually being in the studio with us a few weeks ago: the album's charming drummer brian viglione sneakily took footage of me & todd sickafoose improvising the beginning of 'whiskey drawn' during an afternoon at water music. life partner emilyn brodsky & the album's producer james frazee also make brilliant cameos. take a gander:
more soon! happy summer!
love,
anna.

Posted project update #53 days away: NEW LIMITED REWARDS!
Post Commenthey friends,
i promise we're getting close to the end, but i'm going to be powerhousing through this weekend & to do so, we've added a bunch of fancy new rewards, all of which are limited release!
1. the polaroid postcard: we'll take polaroids in-studio of these amazing musicians doing their thing, and will include the signed photo in your pre-release package! ($75, 15 available)
2. the lyrics: the original, scratched-up, hand-written lyrics to the ten songs on the album - your choice of song! some have even been nibbled by a rabbit. obviously song choice is first-come-first-serve, a few modeled below. ($125, 10 available - one of each song)
3. the brooke weeber print: album artist brooke weeber has generously agreed to create 10 signed prints of the album artwork for kickstarter backers only! ($200, 10 available)
4. the big fish: we'll be working from a gigantor-album-grid-chart while we're in the studio next month - production notes, instrumentation, arrangement notes, etc - and it can be YOURS! all of the musicians who play in the studio sign the giant chart just for you, as well! ($600, 1 available)
all of the new rewards also come with the levels before them - more details on that are on the project's home page. thanks again for getting the word out, as always - only a hop skip & jump away and we could print vinyl!!
