Posted project update #5We Tried ...
Post Comment... but didn't make it.
Still, we may be able to do the show. Anyone who pledged and anyone who still cares to do so from OUTSIDE of the Kickstarter world can still do so and we encourage backers who already have to direct that money to Temple 8's general Tour Expense Fund. Please visit www.temple8.net or email kurt@temple8.net for details. Thanks so much everyone for your interest and support!

Posted project update #4What's the Temple 8 "Mill Wheel?"
Post CommentSomeone just asked me what the "mill wheel" is all about. Apparently they saw the $500 pledge level and were curious about the "mill wheel" wall clock and/or bass drum head (autographed by Libertopia speakers who care to and yours truly).
The "mill wheel" is supposed to be a stone wheel bearing three T8 logos as part of the "Enter the Temple" CD artwork. Three are shown on the back side of the CD digipak which portrays an inside view of the temple.. It was used as a "control" that you could turn to roll out the music and lyrics on the very first Temple 8 flash web site in 2003. It was used as the disc face and also as the front bass drum head for most shows since 2003. Rather than explain it, here's a couple of photos. The first is the back cover of the CD digipak, the second is the bass drum head before it got put on the drum.

Posted project update #2Stefan Molyneux Said He Would Get the Mosh Pit Started!
Post CommentAs the title reads, "Stefan Molyneux said he would get the mosh pit started." This is in direct reference to a private message between he and I regarding my band's scheduled performance at Libertopia in October. The problem is making sure there's a freekin' mosh pit to start.
About a month ago, I created this project to help raise funds in order to 1.) complete Temple 8's next CD and more importantly, 2.) make sure Temple 8 can actually do this Libertopia gig while making sure people who weren't even there really get something of value out of it.
So this message isn't just about getting people to throw a bunch of midwestern guys some money for no good reason, or just so they can finish a CD and have fun in California. In fact, anyone who has ever been in a working band knows that the real fun is pretty much constrained to what little time you actually have on stage. The rest is ball-busting hard work. No ... this is about what will be PRODUCED as a result of funding my Kickstarter project to its goal.
I believe so strongly in what the promoters of Libertopia are doing and our part in it, that I've been willing to go balls to the wall for it and I want to make sure that as many people as possible can benefit from what is taking place at Libertopia, so in addition to finishing a CD and doing a really cool multi-media concert performance, I plan on getting video of every speaker and as many of the breakout sessions as possible, and then rolling all of that into a DVD package that will also include our performance, plus a bunch of other cool stuff, too. And everything will also be posted online.
I know times are tough, and it's really disappointing to see so many people on so many social media sites who claim to "like" something or be a "fan" of something (like my band) and then not support it. It's been a month and my project is only 5% funded. Honestly, I saw a better response in the first 30 days to my first CD when I was pitching it to a NON-libertarian audience. Here I am now, working on material that is even more anti-state and pitching directly to a an anarchist/voluntaryist/libertarian demographic and mostly what I hear, are crickets. What's more is that, if my instincts are correct, knowing how these things tend to go, Libertopia's organizers could very likely take a REALLY HUGE BATH in order to make any of it possible.
On a more positive note, almost all of the few pledges we have so far have come from libertarian types and they've been on the larger side. But lots of smaller pledges can go just as far toward making this thing a reality -- and you'll still get some cool stuff in return.
So, you don't have to be rich and you don't even have to like the kind of music I'm doing (though I admit that it might help). All you REALLY need is an appreciation of the goal I'm trying to achieve here. Bring the benefits of Libertopia to as many people as possible and provide a kickass multi-media concert performance that is decidedly anti-state, then wrap it all up into a cool DVD for anyone who wants it. Additionally, for my band, it's HOLLYWOOD. I have no illusions about being a "rock star", but especially in a place like that, one NEVER KNOWS who will be in attendance who might take an interest in what I'm doing enough to help me kick it up a notch. Might YOU take an interest in what I'm doing and help me kick it up a notch?
I've done my best to make sure there is something for everyone. For example, if you've considered attending Libertopia, but are on the fence due to cost, look at our $100 pledge. If you want recognition of your support, there are a couple things there for you, too. And if you're just one of those people who get warm fuzzies knowing that they did something nice for someone, you're not even obligated to accept any of the things I'm offering in return for your pledge.
While Kickstarter says that you shouldn't consider pledges an investment, I think in this case, you should -- especially if you believe in what the folks at Libertopia are trying to do, and/or what I'm trying to do through my music and our performance there. Stefan Molyneux gave up a high-paying career to become the "Henry Ford" of philosophy and personal/political freedom podcasting. Similarly, I also gave up a high-paying career in information technology in order to do pretty much the same thing through music. So when you consider what I'm asking and what I'm offering, think of it at the very least, as an investment in the advancement of libertarian ideals.
Sure, when Libertopia is over, you may be able to get a smattering of highlights from a variety of locations and some people may even manage to cobble those pieces together at some point. But I am trying make sure people can get it ALL in one package, regardless of whether they attend Libertopia or not.
Can you help me reach my goal? Can you see enough value in this to make it your goal, too? Because the bottom line is this: the project either reaches its goal or we STAY HOME, the Temple 8 @ Libertopia 2010 performance and documentary DVD package doesn't get done and a treasure trove of useful information could be reduced to whatever loose trinkets wind up on the Internet. So won't you please take a look at my Kickstarter project and give it your full consideration and support?
Stefan Molyneux told me he'd get the Mosh Pit started. And I really want to see that happen!

Posted project update #1One Good Reason to Back this Project
Post CommentBecause you love this song so much you've just gotta have it!
Yes, the title track to Iconoclast is now available and we'll fling you a high quality MP3 or OGG file for the measly pledge of ONE DOLLAR (or more). So check out the tune. If you like it and you want a copy and want to hear more, make that pledge and we'll be in touch right away to make arrangements for you to get your copy. That's right. If you pledge that dollar now, you can have instructions on how to download your copy, usually within a few hours -- and you can keep your copy for as long as you wish. In other words, if you pledge a dollar and get this tune and this project doesn't reach it's funding goal .. YOU STILL WIN! :-) So check out the song in the player below and tell us how much you love us by throwing us a bone! :-D
