Hey backers, Its great to hear the majority of backers have received their 'Trunks! We’ve had the whole spectrum of general feedback in messages / comments ranging from “great”, “they do what they advertise”, “awesome” & “they will be perfect with my iPod Nano” to “very disappointed”. First of all, it’s great to hear all kinds of feedback. There’s not one product (especially an independent designer product) that we know of that suits everyone and only receives positive reviews. All feedback has been taken on board and we appreciate the time that our backers have taken to provide feedback. So far we haven’t had any negative feedback regarding the design elements of the product (stackable, portable, flexible, waterproof, virtually indestructible, integrated earbud holder, clarity enhanced stereo sound, works with any device that accepts Apples standard earbuds, etc.). The main criticism seems to be the achievable volume. We noticed that some negative comments have appeared from backers using non-compatible earbuds - we have always recommended that you use standard Apple earbuds – the ones that come with your iPod. It is also difficult to determine if these iPods have been configured to maximise sound output (as described in our last update), if the earbuds are in good working order and if they are being used in the intended environment. It is evident from the range of sound output experienced by our backers that some backers may not be experiencing the maximum volume from their device. Please follow the user manual that came with your device and the suggestions that we have provided in our last update to maximise the sound on your device. We look forward to further troubleshooting so that you can get the best out of your ’Trunks. Some backers were able to increase the volume by adjusting the volume settings within iTunes. This, along with using the other suggestions to maximise volume in our last update (also provided in the FAQ section of our website) should solve the problem in most cases. We have recently purchased a current UK (EU region) iPod shuffle that we have found to have a lower achievable maximum volume due to firmware volume restrictions imposed by the EU. We have ordered additional EU region iPods to test and will pass on any solutions that we find to increase the volume on these EU iPods. If any backers have had any luck with this it would be great to hear from you. We put a lot of time in to accurately describe the design features and limitations of Tembo Trunks on our Kickstarter project page. We wanted to be completely transparent. Naturally, it’s a bit sobering to find that some backers are disappointed with the reward they have received for helping to fund the project and feel they have been misled regarding the sound capabilities of Tembo Trunks. The last thing that we wanted to do was misrepresent the product in any way and we made sure that we accurately presented the project on Kickstarter, in our updates, in our responses to messages and in our responses to comments. We’ve also been sure to accurately and transparently communicate the volume limitations beyond Kickstarter to our website features and FAQ. We didn’t want people to think they would be helping to fund a replacement for a powered speaker system or a “louder” set of speakers. The design intent from the beginning was to create a thoughtfully designed, sustainable product built from superior materials that would allow people to share music from their iPod without requiring any power. We don’t think that we could have done any more to accurately describe the sound output of Tembo Trunks. We described the achievable output in our Kickstarter project video & Kickstarter project description. Here, we have given scenarios where the amplification is sufficient to share your tunes without overstating the capabilities. To provide a conclusive, quantifiable description, we measured the maximum achievable volume output using a decibel reader (measuring up to 80dB) and clearly stated this on our Kickstarter project page. In our first Kickstarter project comment, we were asked more about the volume capabilities to which we provided a detailed response and also posted a video comparing earbuds alone vs Tembo Trunks. In our backer updates we have posted a higher quality comparison video with a real time visual representation of sound output. In response to messages describing the intention to use Tembo Trunks in environments that they were not designed to be used in, we provided a list of what Tembo Trunks WILL & WILL NOT do in an update to all backers as a reminder. We have also posted this in the FAQ section of our website. Many backers are enjoying using Tembo Trunks. The fact is, Tembo Trunks do work and they function as described in all available forms of communication that we have at our disposal. As a unique product, it is an ongoing challenge to describe the capabilities of the ‘Trunks and to ensure that the product is received as described and that expectations are aligned with the product’s design intent. The experience and support that we have received from the Kickstarter community has been humbling. We are really appreciative of the support from all of our backers. As a designer, your constructive feedback drives improvement. Thanks again to all our backers. We have been fortunate to create a new product through Kickstarter – if any of our backers are creating a project on Kickstarter please let us know because we’d love to offer our support.

In a comment reply, you said, "We are hoping to start shipping Tembo Trunks to all our backers in Mid May. We will post any updates regarding ship dates as they occur." Now it appears that you won't be shipping until Mid-August. Have you started this process yet, because that wasn't really clear to me in the update.
Thanks,
Adam. -

Scott,
Are there any firm dates for shipping? I am scheduled to rotate out of the AOR (moving back to the US) and therefore would need to change my shipping address if there has indeed been a delay in shipping. Please let me know soonest so we can make arrangements.

I´m really pissed off! Sorry for this term but that´s what I feel!
I´ve tried it with the original earphones from apple and connected it to a galaxy I9000, 4 different mp3 players and the result is --- nothing to hear!
where is the promised amplification of 80% ?? When I read all the post, there are more as 90% with the same disappointing.
So what? Is that the biggest rip off ever happened to me??
I really feel like that. Feeling ripped off from 2 smart aussies.
Maybe i`m wrong. Than persuade me from my arguments. Like all the other dissapointed people here.
I really want to have a full refund. How to do?
I´m tensed to hear from you.
Greetz from cgn, germany

Posted project update #98 hours left!
Hey Everyone,
The response that we have received from our backers for Tembo Trunks has been awesome. We can’t believe how quickly the last 60 days has gone. With just 8 hours until our project finishes, we wanted to write a quick update for you all.
Thankyou for all your support, comments and messages throughout the project. It really has been awesome. We are working tirelessly to get your ‘Trunks out to you as soon as possible. We will get back to all your messages and comments individually – please bear with us, there are a few there.
When the project finishes, Amazon Payments will charge your credit card for your pledge amount. Also, a quick reminder (from our last update);
In the final stages of the project there are a few important things we wanted to let you know about:
· After the project finishes up on Kickstarter we will be sending out surveys via email to collect the shipping details of all backers. This is the only way to collect your mailing address. We’ll be able to get your ‘Trunks out to you ASAP with these details, so please keep an eye out for this one.
· We’ve got a really proactive company helping us fulfil orders in the USA (your ‘Trunks will be picked, packed, and shipped from the West Coast of the USA).
Please remember if you are located outside the USA to add international shipping of $10.00 to your pledge.
How can I add $10.00 to my pledge?
Kickstarter have made this really easy. Log into Kickstarter. Go to the Tembo Trunks project page http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tembotrunks/tembo-trunks-earbud-speakers and click the ‘manage my pledge’ button on the right. At the top of this page please add shipping to your pledge and click ‘continue’. For example for First ‘Trunks backers this page would have ‘$39.00’ (without international shipping) please change this figure to ‘$49.00’ (to include international shipping).
It’s a great weekend for us - we hope you all enjoy your weekend as well! We will be in touch very soon.
Thanks again,
Scott and Mike

Did you know that "tembo" means "penis" in guarani language.?
One more reason to have it.

For those of us who got the 'add $10 for international shipping' email at the same time as 'your pledge has been paid' emails, how do we go about adding it retrospectively?

While my Tembo Trunks are durable, they do not, "Provide amplified stereo sound (up to 80dB; 3 x the sound) with increased clarity for sharing tunes in casual situations." nor do they, "Provide a more sustainable method to share music."
I believe either replacements or reimbursements are in order for all investors.
I absolutely agree. They don't increase sound much at all. I actually cut them out and put in some portable iHome speakers because the concept of using the shape for better or louder sound is awesome. But yeah, as far as using the Tembo Trunks with headphones... Not really working.
I also agree with the last two commenters. I was actually surprised at the lack of increased volume and my earbuds are excellent. It was a great idea, but unless you have some earbuds that blast out the volume levels like a normal speaker, your not going to hear much difference using the Tembo Trunks. Wish that wasn't the case.
