Post CommentCheck out this beautiful space in Ft. Andross (the old mill) here in Brunswick that we're pining over!
The photos don't quite do it justice. It's two rooms with huge windows, high ceilings, and a utility sink in back. And importantly, it's very accessible to both Spindleworks artists and community members alike and located near the studios of some of our favorite local artists. We think it has amazing potential to be transformed into a big sensory art experience during this residency!
This space is slightly more pricey than we budgeted for, so any additional backers we can rally during the final two weeks of this Kickstarter campaign would be great. Post CommentWe are well on our way to raising HALF of the goal in less than 24 hours from launch! You folks are out of control enthusiastic and awesome! Thank you so much for getting with us on this endeavor. Extended collaborations/artist in residency projects like this are rare at Spindleworks because honestly there just isn't room in our budget to do them, and going the Kickstarter route is quite an experiment for us. If this is funding method is successful, expect to see more projects like this -- featuring local artists in collaboration with Spindleworks -- in the future! We are committed to providing new and challenging creative opportunities for the Spindleworkers while also employing Maine artists, and you're making that happen.
Our overall budget for this residency with Matt Anderson is $7,000. We've received a generous grant from the Senter Fund to cover a portion of that, and have another application out into the ether as we speak. Your support through Kickstarter is very much needed to cover the difference between what these grants may cover and the actual cost of the project. Anything we raise over the Kickstarter goal of $2,800 will secure the project and make the work produced during it even better. So, thank you!
If you are in the Brunswick/Greater Portland area, stay tuned for info on how you can actually come visit us in the work space once the project begins. If you are a friend far away, don't worry -- we've got ways for you to join in as well.
