commented on a projectCan you describe a bit more about where the funding will come from for the next phase of the project? It sounds like this phase is about building a small output structure, and doing the initial design study for the renewable energy systems, but ultimately, the RE systems will cost quite a bit more than the initial funding raise. It sounds compelling, but it would be helpful to know more about Phase 2 and 3, and what the plans are for accomplishing them.

commented on a project updateIndeed - keep it simple! CNC routers have to be optimized for high torque, lower speed, which is the opposite principle for moving optics - building a Mechmate, then retrofitting laser on, would be a dramatically more expensive way to go about it. I already have a DIY cnc router (48"x48"), a Joe's Hybrid CNC design, and while I've fantasized about adding other features to it, every time I look at the costs and compromises, I come back to it being a better deal all around to build a separate unit for laser.
