Rubulad

Brooklyn, NY

Rubulad began way back in 1993 and has been bringing people together ever since. Our events are handmade, scavenged and assembled with love. The Rubulad team is 45 people strong, and includes renegade costume designers, artists, DJs, musicians, puppeteers, craftspeople, circus performers, stilt-walkers, cooks, and plain old nice folks.

Crossing the Finish Line (1 more hour to go)

    Dear Donors,

I have no words to express how we are feeling. We are so grateful for all of your work and efforts on our behalf. We know money is in short supply right now so it feels like New York is voting to have a Rubulad.

I was going to write to you this week about the incredibly powerful magic that happens when artists of different disciplines have a place to commingle and create. I was going to write to you about the loss of so many of these kind of spaces, like Carnegie studios and the Chelsea Hotel.

I was going to write you about the weird sort of post traumatic stress disorder and helplessness we New Yorkers feel as we watch our favorite places disappear.

I can’t talk about loss today though, because today we are going to win. Because you all are unbelievably generous and because you care.

I believe, in fact I know, that we will reach our goal today and be able to start a new Rubulad home space soon. We can still have a city with variety and color - if we try.

I just have to give thanks here to some folks. If we miss you, its because we're overwhelmed and delirious, not because we don't appreciate each and every one of you. Savitri Durkee of Rev Billy and the Stop Shopping Gospel Choir, Kevin Balktick and Mark Winkel, Dan Selzer of NY Happenings, Phil Hartman who sent beautiful emails for us, Bob Ajar, Mike Harlow, Veronica Dogherty, Viva, Katwise, Caution, Matteo, Greg, Tetsu who all offered emergency assistance, Conrad - Dirtyfinger, who’s gone above and beyond the call of duty spreading the word, Mojo, Mary-Go- Round, Steph Castillo, Aaron Edwards, Jimmy Holovat - Happy Birthday! we wish you the best year ever -, Danielle Hlatkey, Jeff Stark and Abby Ehman.

    You are our champions!

And of course Baby Clementine - my Kickstarter orphan.

And most of all Alita Edgar, who has been calm, cool, collected and a smart cookie to boot throughout this entire journey.

We're almost home now. Thank you all for making our dream come true!

We have just reached our goal! Thank you so much – we love you!

Here is a picture we took last night - we're all smiles now at Rubulad home base.

    31 Hours to Go!!!

Okay, this is it.  Time to dig up your dead grandmother's remains and take her teeth to 47th Street.  We don't have any more time to fool around.

Either we support art and culture or we submit to a life spent watching television.

It's the last push and we need to make it over this hump together, or we might as well just throw in the towel and admit that we don't really care about underground art, fun or mayhem in NYC. We either align ourselves with Bloomberg and embrace mall culture - or we bust out and have a big rumpus.

We're so close to our goal, that it's getting stupid and we all really need someone to just kick this thing in the head and "call it macaroni," as they used to say.

This is one of those rare problems that actually can be solved by throwing money at it, so tear off a piece and throw it through the window for the sake of FUN.
    http://kck.st/vky0wS

We'd love to send a huge "thank you" to these groups, who have emailed for us in a big way:

    - Secret Project Robot
    - Gemini & Scorpio
    - Dreiky Caprice of Happy Birthday Hideout
    - Will Etundi of Artists Wanted
    - House of Yes
    - Sara Valentine of Hungry March Band
... and of course Nonsense NYC.

We're now at 71% of the way toward our goal thanks to you, dear donors.  A little extra action will take us home.

This is the dancey keychain art by Depthography group.

    You da bomb!

THE HOME STRETCH!! Only 50 Hours To Go!

    Hello Donors,

Here is the invitation to our party this Saturday:

Art by Stephanie Castillo, here and below

Our kickstarter campaign will then be over and we hope, with your help, to be joyously celebrating.

We’re getting down to the nitty gritty. Can you all please double down and re-remind EVERYONE YOU KNOW to join in and contribute to http://kck.st/vky0wS.  This is no time to be shy.

Please do not let there be a New York without Rubulad.  Your contributions make all the difference to the experience of underground nightlife in this city.  This is a way of life for those of us committed to entertain you by any means necessary.  Your generosity will be rewarded dozens of times over.  Don’t miss this unique opportunity to be part of something big, weird, noisy and out of control!

We can make it with your help.  Thank you sincerely! There- We've said it.

Now, on a lighter note, let's talk about some things that are always happening over the holidays -

    Holiday Sales!
We're putting some of our juciest rewards on sale including:

    - G. Scopitronic's film fest boxes - now only $80

    - Chicken John book with limited edition Swoon (!) cover art-slashed way down to $165

    - Mary-Go-Round at your children's event for a mere $220

    - Joe McGinty- yes that's The Joe McGinty of The Losers Lounge will do Keyboard Karaoke for your next party for $250

-You can even name a chair after your saintly Mum for the paltry sum of $180

    - and yes your friends can still help out by pre-buying Saturday's SantaCon Afterparty tickets

    - only 10 bux for Santas!

See you there, you sweet things, you!
