    Kickstarter Rewards Ship!

Hello! Many of you have already received your Kickstarter Rewards - we have a second shipment going out tomorrow … so keep your eye on your mailbox if you are expecting a care package from us! We also completed coding the stage earlier this month and are beginning to write the tutorials to support transition of the site to New Artists Productions. We have received several emails from individuals interested in the content of the tutorials (as well as any code patches) and are working on the first draft which will become part of our Resource Library. We will post a notice here when those tutorials are available.

We can't thank you enough for helping make our Kickstarter project a big success!

    #rdcHQ Launch Party and Rewards

Greetings! Rural Design Collective Headquarters is buzzing with activity as we prepare for our Launch Party which takes place on September 4th. At that time, we will roll out the beta version of the New Artists Productions website to the public. Our Launch Party coincides with the third "Art in the Information Age" exhibit at Point.B Studio, so the event promises to be interesting as well as art-filled! You can learn more about the event here.

Shortly after the #rdcHQ Launch Party, we will begin fulfilling our Kickstarter rewards - watch your email for a request for more information so we can get these to you as soon as possible.

Thank you again for your support of our project. A lot of work and care went into the site this summer, and your contribution ensures the completion of this website that will serve New Artists Productions and youth theater well into the future.

    WE ARE FUNDED!

Greetings! We are FUNDED! We thank all of our wonderful backers! We had some press about our project in the Bandon Western World that gives a little more background on our collaboration. We are very happy to see the website become a reality, and it is so much fun working with New Artists Productions.

We'll be spending the next week getting the site ready for our Rural Design Collective Launch Party on September 4th. This primarily involves completing the animated stage by adding the navigation into the site and the photography slideshow. We also have a pesky bug with IE9/Windows Vista that we are trying to track down (if you view the stage with this browser combination, the curtain will not open, and even though the site is not 100% ready yet, this is definitely a BUG not a FEATURE :-) ).

The month of September will be devoted to writing tutorials to support the transition of the site, and helping New Artists Productions create the password-protected area for the participants in their program. Speaking of which, we spent much of this week's session reviewing Users and Roles in Wordpress, and how we will utilize this feature to build this section of the site. We have an idea how this will work, and will be setting up a test page soon to "kickstart" this really cool feature.

Thank you to our kind and generous backers again - we could not have done this without your support! We will keep you posted on our post-production progress ... and will send news and photos from the Rural Design Collective Launch Party ... where we officially have A LOT to celebrate! :-)

    Setting the Stage, Part II

We have successfully coded our stage with jQuery using the Easing plug-in, and despite a few details to work out with the background image, we are quite pleased with the results. This dramatic introduction to the site will highlight select content for upcoming events, such as the "Chili & Cabaret" fundraiser that New Artists Productions is currently organizing. We'll be designing and coding a slideshow of photographs for the stage and the navigation into the site this week.

The funds we raise via Kickstarter go to our two mentees who are working to make this project a reality - We have four days to go in our fundraiser, and we need just $494 to make our goal. Kickstarter is all-or-nothing funding, so we are hoping to raise the rest for this worthy project!

The Rural Design Collective thanks YOU for your support!

    Setting the Stage

Greetings - this week we worked on some details involving the animated stage that will be a focal point of the site. We'll be coding this in HTML5 and have been investigating tools such as the technology preview of Adobe Edge and the jQuery code library. We think jQuery is the right way to go at this time, but it is interesting to learn what Edge can do.

Oceana has been doing a fabulous job with the art which will truly bring the stage to life when we bring all of the pieces together, while Jenn is working on the design details for the website.

We have just 8 days left in our fundraiser - please help spread the word about our project!

(our video is just a rough sketch of how we envision the stage working - we are still working on the details!)

The last update went out via email before I had the opportunity to correct one of the links - the correct link for the Scrapbook is below:

PS. This little mistake gives me the opportunity to point out that if you click the little audio icon in the upper right of the Scrapbook, the text is spoken for you courtesy of the Internet Archive. Cool! :-)

    More New Artists History

Several folks have asked for more information about New Artists Productions ... and that is a major reason that the Rural Design Collective wants to build this website, of course! This week, we updated the poster history with much more information about the group, including letters from participants in the program and sketches and behind-the-scenes stories from the directors of the program, Dan and Anita Almich.

We also added many more articles to the Scrapbook which also helps tell the story of why we want to do this project. New Artists Productions have touched a lot of children's lives, and they have a wealth of ideas on how to use their site to connect with other youth theater groups and share their knowledge and expertise in the field.

Check out the following links to learn more about New Artists Productions:

Thank you for helping us build this site with your generous pledges ... if you know anyone who might be interested in our project, please spread the word. We'll be documenting what we learn as we build the site to help other organizations "kickstart" their own WordPress website.

We have 20 days left in our Kickstarter campaign! Thank you for your support!

    New Video Trailer!

We have a new trailer for our Kickstarter fundraising campaign using several frames from our stage animation that we are creating for the New Artists Production website. This animation was created by Nate, a Junior Member of the Rural Design Collective and a cast member in several New Artists Productions! The video uses elements of Oceana's stage design and Jenn's layout work for our WordPress theme.
