Posted project update #9Pressing the Petal: A Highway of Film Flowers
Post CommentKickstarters - it's been a while...but we've been dropping petals along the editing trail to Triple Divide so we could find our way back to you.
Editing is a delicate process and can make you feel like you're living in a time warp. Heck - you really are living a time warp. At the end of this long, circling road, we are thrilled to present your final reward - our documentary about some of the most pristine waters in the country, now under the growing shadow of water contamination due to shale oil and gas extraction in the Marcellus region of Pennsylvania.
Those of you with t-shirts and Lifetime Memberships to Public Herald for rewards should have received your shirts and copies of Ida Tarbell's double volume History of the Standard Oil Company several weeks ago. The next round of awards will be out by the end of May, so look forward to those just before summer. Then - Triple Divide debuts after the summer solstice, maybe even on the solstice, if the stars so align.
You, our dear supporters, will be the first to have it.
We hope all is well wherever you are and look forward to sending you your next round of rewards.
Regards,
Melissa Troutman & Joshua Pribanic

Posted project update #8New Podcast: False detainment in a PA state forest
Post CommentPublic Herald has published the account of Melissa Troutman and Joshua Pribanic, creators of the film our backers will be receiving later this year, being falsely detained, physically and verbally harassed, and referred to as potential 'eco-terroritsts' by a certain gas drilling company currently operating on public lands in PA.
Our report touches on the natural gas industry's admitted use of psychological warfare and PA Homeland Security to target not just those opposed to drilling, but also anyone getting together just to talk about it...or are trying to photograph for a film (on public land).
You can read the report or give the podcast a listen at http://www.publicherald.org/archives/15283/investigative-reports/uncategorized/. This story will also appear briefly in the film.
Thanks again for your support - and stay in touch!

Posted project update #4"Shoveling Water" Predrill Testing Report Finds Its Way to Ohio Legislators
Post CommentAfter a late night discussion and a few emails we found out someone has been handing out the Shoveling Water predrill testing report, our last investigation for 2011, to Ohio politicians in the hopes of gaining greater control and oversight for predrill tests as the state prepares for a wave of industry plays in the Utica shale.

Posted project update #3YOU DID IT!!! Kickstarter Backers Fund Triple Divide Documentary
Post CommentWe made it! Actually you made it happen for us... we reached our initial funding goal. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to everyone who backed us with a donation. Now we get to focus on finishing your awesome rewards: limited edition artwork, original t-shirts, Melissa's solo album, and – of course – the film!
We'd also like to thank those of you who donated time by sharing our work on Facebook, Twitter, and across the internet contributing to the voice and momentum for reaching our goal, helping us climb to a new audience that can budget the film's completion.
For an overview about where we are with the film and our overall work on Public Herald, take a look at the 2012 Letter to Readers: http://www.publicherald.org/archives/14993/uncategorized/
**Next week an excerpt on Split Estate will be made available for everyone as a video, and our new t-shirt options are coming also.
Is this the end for kickstarter...?
Not yet... 13 days are left. We originally planned for a much higher goal, but scaled back and are reaching out to foundations to fill in the gap. Now we are at the confluence and paddling hard to stay afloat as we move down river. If you have friends, family, or acquaintances interested in these issues now is the time to let them know we're here documenting the story. And in the next chapter, it's their chance to play a part in seeing this project to the end.
Wholeheartedly,
Melissa Troutman & Joshua Pribanic (Founders of The Public Herald)
