Posted project update #11AM I BROKEN? - Status Update
Post CommentHello AIB Sponsors!
Looks like it's been since October since my last update so thought I'd give a shout out to my peeps. Did I sound young when I said that or just nerdy?
Anyhoooooo, the slow wheels of documentary filmmaking have been moving along since my last update. In fact, we are closing in on the finish line and I'm happy to report that things are REALLY looking good. I always knew this project had a lot of potential for a great story and now I can actually see it on the screen. We have done what eludes most filmmakers and told our story well.
This isn't to say that we don't still have a ton of work in front of us because we do. But it's getting really exciting to see the vision come into the light. We will have a rough cut ready by early April with some planned test screenings. First up is a children's mental health conference at the University of Wisconsin in April and then a work in progress screening at the Seattle Documentary Association in May. We plan to lock picture in June and then send it through it's finishing processes for color and sound immediately following. Great news is that one of the best audio mixers in town has stepped up to do our sound mixing for free. Thank you Dave G!
In the meantime, please "like" us on Facebook. Link is below. We have over 800 followers from over 20 countries at the moment. And we haven't even finished this darn thing so I'm pretty jazzed.
That's all for now. Thanks again for making this all possible! We're working hard to make you proud.

Posted project update #10AM I BROKEN? still chugging!
Post CommentHello AM I BROKEN? Backers,
I wanted to drop a note to let you know where things are as it's been a while since my last communication. We are still in the editing process and we're about half way done. We've had our funding challenges but our editor Graeme believes in the project so much that he has agreed to keep working on the film for free while we rustle up the next round of funding. Which is awesome!! Thanks Graeme!
Just heard from a stranger in Wisconsin who had seen our trailer and relayed the following.
"I work for a small, parent-run nonprofit in Wisconsin that serves families that include children with mental, emotional or behavioral disorders. Each day, we fight for kids with behavioral challenges to be viewed through a new lens. The prevailing hypothesis that kids simply lack the motivation to behave well has resulted in ineffective and even damaging interventions. Knowing my interest in this area, a friend told me about “Am I Broken.” After viewing the trailer on the website, I can’t wait for its release.
Just wanted to drop you a quick note to encourage and thank you for addressing this very important topic."That's kind of awesome to know that buzz is spreading through the community despite our relatively low profile so far.
We're targeting to be ready with a festival ready rough cut by February 2012. Our next set of deadlines for key film festivals is in June so that should give us plenty of time to get ourselves ready for that phase of the project.
In the meantime, I've just updated the website. www.amibroken.org with current information and videos. I've also re-created our Facebook page and added lots of still photographs from the production. Please check that out and give us a "like". I'll keep updating that page with fresh info as we move along toward our February goal.

Posted project update #9Am I Broken? Update
Post CommentHello Am I Broken? Backers,
Just a quick update and a new video piece to share.
We've been madly editing since November and inching our way ever closer to a rough cut. We're now at a stage where we know where the gaps are and have been shooting some pick up interviews last week and have a few more to do in the next couple weeks. Things are coming together in a great way and our editor Graeme Lowry has been pouring his heart and soul into the project.
We're going to see where we're at in early March and game plan from there.
In the mean time, we took a short break to create the video for CHILD's annual fundraising luncheon using footage from Am I Broken? Take a look at http://www.vimeo.com/19759799
Thanks again all! This is only possible because of you.

Posted project update #8Going to Edit
Hello Am I Broken? Backers,
Just a quick note to keep you all updated on our progress so far with Am I Broken?
Fantastic news over the last month. Our project has moved into the edit room! Graeme Lowry, an editor out of LA has joined the team and has been editing full time for the last couple weeks. Duane Edmonds (Co-Director) and I met with Graeme to story board and review the footage for a few days. It was a great session and we were all on the same page regarding the story we're trying to tell. After two weeks Graeme reports in that we have a "real gem" on our hands and his enthusiasm is growing by the day.
We're hoping to have a first draft rough cut ready by February. Not quite ready for prime time but should be close at that point.
This is all possible thanks to you, our backers. And a big thank you to Beyond Home Productions for stepping up their involvment and helping us get to this next critical stage of the project. I'll send periodical updates as we progress. Thanks again everyone!
