Posted project update #4Day 12 of Writing
Post CommentWe wrapped up the structure for song #3 today, and I must say I’m surprised with how it came together. Progressive material usually takes us a considerable amount of time due to less repeating of sections. However, the process of writing this song struck me as odd. We would be in a writing slump for hours, then all of a sudden we would remember that an old riff would flow perfectly next, or one of us would play an idea, and within a couple minutes we would have decided on that part. A few sections were written in a matter of seconds, literally. Orie would come up with a riff on the fly, and we would all say, “Alright, next part.” It was as if the song overall took only a few hours to write, but we spent 4 days getting there. Next step, lyrics.
This song has been code named “Third Lung” after my breathing troubles. We’ll see if it holds up.

Posted project update #3Day 4 of Writing
Post CommentIn the past I’ve always written the melody and lyrics on my own time with more or less my own themes. While this was usually the quickest option, we decided that because writing music was now a cohesive effort we should write the vocals together as well, since they obviously hold a lot of meaning in the song. This was a pretty simple concept in theory, but putting it into practice was definitely a learning process and not as smooth, initially, as we thought.
We finished the first song and sat down to write the lyrics together. Writing melodies went relatively well which was refreshing, we came up with some excellent ideas that I wouldn’t have come up with on my own, so that part was a definite success. Then we came to actually writing the lyrics. We tried to decide on a theme, but the variety of feelings was quite wide and it was a lengthy discussion until we actually settled on something. When we all wrote some lines separately and read them to each other it was difficult to shoot down anyone’s idea, considering that this was a distinct part of how they were feeling, so sifting the lyrics proved to be a process.
All in all, though making the lyric writing process longer, doing it as a whole produces a much more satisfying and unified vocal presence.

Post CommentWe had "Club Oddepoxy" on Friday night since Orie was gone at a show in Mansfield. Lee setup some fat beats and I played bass to them while Lee went around to the piano, drums and various other effects. It was a blast and it definitely opened up our creative sides.

Post CommentFirst of all, welcome to our Kickstarter blog!
We just wrapped up our first day of writing live, and it was definitely a journey getting there. We we’re supposed to go lived at 2pm, but unfortunately last night our power went out at 11:15pm so we were unable to finish up the final touches for getting ready to go live. Luckily everything was ironed out by 6pm.
We couldn’t have asked for a better first day. Everyone tuning in was fantastic, and we hope to chat with more of you in the days to come!
Decent amount of progress was made on a new song based off an old riff we had recorded a while back. It was interesting to see how much it changed from the original within just a few short hours. You can expect to see us live again today at 2pm eastern.
Also a great thanks to my dear friend, Dustin Montgomery, for working so hard to help me get this site up and running in time.
