Posted project update #26Where Is Your Book?
Hi everybody --
For those of you still without a book: WE SUCK! We tried to schedule a date and then that kind of faded away and then... nothing. But we're fixing that.
You will have FIVE chances to pick up your book in the month of December. Kickstarter will be manning a table at the Degenerate Craft Fair in NYC, and we will have copies of New York Makes a Book on-hand. The dates, locations, and times are as follows:
December 4th (8pm – 12am)
Silent Barn
http://www.myspace.com/thesilentbarnDecember 13
Sunday: noon to 10pm
303 Grand, Brooklyn
http://www.303grandnyc.com/December 18 – 19th
Friday: noon to 9pm (reception 7-9pm)
Saturday: noon to 6pm
BravinLee Programs
http://bravinlee.com
526 W 26th streetIf you are planning to come to one of those dates, let us know if you could. Would be good to know roughly how many books to bring. If you can't make any of those dates and you are in NYC, we (Kickstarter) will have an office in the near future and you'll be able to stop by. If you are out of NYC and are lacking a book, send us a message.
We love you all! Happy holidays!

Posted project update #25If You Still Need a Book...
Hi everyone. When we first launched the project we specifically asked for just New Yorkers because we weren't raising money to ship any books, solely to get them printed. Still, not everyone has gotten theirs yet, and we want to get that straightened away.
If you haven't yet gotten your book, please respond in the comments to this post. We're thinking we'll throw a second book gathering -- this one much more low-key -- and people can come out and pick up their copies. And if you are not in NYC, you could simply send a friend to grab your copy. Sound good?
Please respond in the comments if you still need a book. We'll do our best to find a date that works for as many people as possible. Cheers!

Posted project update #22New York Makes a Book Party: September 17th!!
Fellow authors! We are excited to *finally* announce a date and location for the New York Makes a Book party: it will be held Thursday, September 17th at Le Poisson Rouge (http://lepoissonrouge.com/) in the West Village. The space is absolutely beautiful -- it's going to be great.
The event will last from 6 until 9. Guests are absolutely welcome. And when you come, you'll get your copy of New York Makes a Book.
In terms of the book itself, it's looking great. We're about to send off for one last proof to make sure our fixes look okay, and once we do we'll place the order through Blurb for all 100.
And speaking of Blurb, the folks over there have agreed to give us 30 extra books for press and people who come to the party who might want to get one. Big thanks to them for that.
Okay! Hope everyone can make it. See you September 17th!

Posted project update #21The book arrived! The book arrived!
Hell yeah! The proof copy of NY Makes a Book just arrived, and I've got the video to prove it. We're going to go through page by page making sure everything is cool, and once it's set we'll place the big order and set a date for the party. It's looking good so far!

Posted project update #20New York Makes a Book is almost ready!
Hi everyone --
We've spent the past month gathering everyone's entries and doing the layout for the book, and we're expecting a proof next week! After checking that to make sure everything is kosher, we'll place the order for the books and set the date for the party. Hope everyone's excited!

Posted project update #19UPDATE/ LAST CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Hello Everyone,
First off, we'd like to say the book is looking pretty darn good! So THANK YOU for all of your wonderful submissions and backing this project! Unfortunately, we are still missing about 20 submissions (you know who you are) and we are ALL very anxious to get this book to print and have the party, right?!?!? Initially, the idea was that all backers who bought a page (which also includes your own copy of the book) would have participated further and submitted material to be published in their name. So to stick with that and encourage the remaining backers to do so, we would like to extend the submissions deadline for the outstanding pages to Thursday, June 18 EOD. If the deadline is missed, dont worry, you will still get a copy of the book and an invite to the party.
As for the party...
We will be proofing the first copy of the book by the end of the month and soon we will begin to search for a venue that can accommodate all of us . Once we have the book looking good and a venue locked in, we will have a definitive date for the party ASAP.Looking forward to seeing the rest of the submissions and meeting you all.
Sincerely,
Claudia, Perry and Yancey -

Posted project update #15TIME TO SUBMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and here are your page numbers)
Once again, from all of us, thank you! thank you! Thank you, for making this happen by purchasing a page in our book! Now get to work and SUBMIT something! (please) Remember the deadline is
June 1....
Below is the list of participants by their page number. It's helpful for all of us to know where we exist in the book for many reasons...(dont worry there will still be an index) However, now that y'all know your page numbers, please be a doll and provide it in the subject of your email with your submission. That way we can put your pretty poem, photo, painting, or whatever it is in its appropriate place easily... If you've submitted already, don't sweat it.Gracias

Hey everyone --
As we roll down the homestretch, the Kickstarter folks (Perry + Yancey) are throwing a little meetup in the LES at Grand Opening at 139 Norfolk St, running from 6:30-9:30pm. We'd like to invite everyone from New York Makes a Book to come by and say hello. We'd love to meet you!

Posted project update #11Success, and how we are credited
Look at that! Over $3,000! And there are still four pages left, thanks to the generosity of some folks who donated to our party. Badass.
We also got another good email, this from Stacy, owner of page three:
"I'm looking forward to the project but am curious about how each page with be credited to the author/designer.
Do we need to put our "signature" on our page? Will there be an index and/glossary?
Thanks!
Stacy"
++++++++
When Perry, Claudia and I first discussed, we thought probably an index listing every author and their page number. Something like that. If you wanted to put a signature or a credit on your page, you are welcome to. Does that sound okay to everyone?

Posted project update #10Email of the Day
We just got an amazing message from Alexandra Marvar (http://www.alexmarvar.com/), one of New York Makes a Book's authors (like you!). She writes:
Hi Book-Making catalysts.
Perhaps you've received all kinds of anonymous internet enthusiasm... here's another note — heard about this from a friend, told several friends, we all have pages, some of us are sharing them with people we love, making art ... And we're all high-fiving about the idea. Psyched for the immediate-time-capsule quality of a random hundred-person collaboration in print, and excited for the five or eight of us friends-by-association to have a chance to be part of something together. Love et. I hope hope I'll be in town for the launch/hello party! Thanks for this great idea.
Best,
AlexSo awesome.

Posted project update #811 Days, 35 Pages Left
NY Makes a Book keeps chugging along thanks to everyone's enthusiasm. To close out those final slots, please send the project to your fellow New Yorkers or post on Twitter/Facebook/MySpace/etc. That's the key to getting this thing kickstarted.
Has everyone been thinking about what they're going to put on their page? As a reminder, you'll need to submit a 300dpi RGB JPEG to wemakeabook at gmail. Deadline is June 1. For help on how to make a 300dpi file (we were scared at first too but it's actually totally simple) you can just Google it. Not that bad at all.
Thanks everyone! And if anyone would like to share some ideas in the comments, go for it.
