Posted project update #3A Marine's Guide to Christmas
Post CommentHello very patient Kickstarter supporters!
I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays. It's hard to believe, but we launched this kickstarter almost a year ago.
Since then we've successfully survived production in April followed by what has become an epic post-production process and now, here in the waning days of 2010, the film is done (almost...)!
We've finished the editing and all the sound design (huge props to sound mastermind Arjun Sheth for being an amazing shepard of the film through all things sound) and now we're finishing up the score (Maine-talent Dan Capaldi is composing along with an original guitar track from Jason Everman, former Soundgarden/Nirvana guitarist turned Army Ranger turned Columbia philosophy student) and doing a day or two of color correcting in January before finally being able to get the film out and screened for you all. I'm looking to hold a cast/crew/supporters preview screening in Portland around the end of January (and probably a smaller preview screening in New York too). Keep you all posted!
In the meantime, I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I'm off now to make my annual Christmas spiced buttered rum (a big pot of boiling hot cider, dark rum, and about 4 sticks of butter… it's great).

Post CommentWe've officially wrapped principle photography on "A Marine's Guide to Fishing"! Well... technically we wrapped about a week ago, but it's taken me about that much time to get settled back in New York, return all the equipment and props and now begin to make the next turn into post production.
Such details aside, the shoot was a blast and went really, really well. It was a pleasure to work with both the local (all New England!) cast and the local crew. We had about a dozen Maine filmmaking talent come out during the shoot to lend a hand and to work side-by-side with the core crew coming out of New York. The production wouldn't have been possible without the really close collaboration that ensued (big props to the Maine Studio and the very gifted students in the Communications & New Media department at SMCC).
We also somehow during the shoot found time for an Easter Egg hunt, a game of croquet, and a big jam session. That doesn't happen too often.
The project now enters post production. We're shooting to have a trailer ready for the end of April and the final film cut by the end of the summer.
Below are a few photos from the first day of shooting and a photo of lead actor, Matthew Pennington, who did an amazing job bringing Connor's story to life and was a real honor to work with.
Also, expect an email soon about mailing addresses, etc. because now that we've wrapped, it's time to send out all the lovely goods that are owed for all the very much needed support in making this film happen.
On a side note - my immediate attention now gets shifted to the Tribeca Film Festival, where a short documentary I directed last spring about a metal band from Cuba will have its New York premier. Post CommentHello lovely, amazing Kickstarter supporters!
After nearly a year of writing, research, and preparing (and then more writing, research and development), we're now less than three days away from starting production on "A Marine's Guide to Fishing".
I'm really excited to get this story shot and to share it with you all. We've got a really awesome cast of local New Englanders and an amazing young veteran of OEF/OIF from Maine, Matthew Pennington, in the lead role. The locations we'll be shooting in are stunning and very uniquely Maine (see the photo below for a little taste from our latest tech scout).
I'm also really excited about the crew we've got locked down—it's a strong and tight group of New York artists working hand-in-hand with some really great young Maine filmmaking talent (and big props to 20/20 Pictures and December Productions for rounding out the production team).
We'll be shooting around southern Maine over 5 days from this Friday, April 2nd until next Tuesday, April 6th.
I'll be sending out photos, clips, and updates if time allows over the weekend and will certainly send out a big blast after production wraps next week letting everyone know how it all went.
