I have no words. I'm so incredibly excited for this. I am unfortunately at work and will not be able to listen to the album until I get home tonight... but man, I'm excited.
I am so glad and touched that you would entrust us, your fans, to fund this. I feel like this album has been a long time coming, that it is a journey that I, that we have been going on with you. Starting from Nowhere to fumbling in the Darkness to Swallowing the sea and now to stepping through into the Dawn, the Land of the Living. This truly has been a journey.
"In the journey when the night is done I will set my face towards the sun. And I will not look back, no. No, I will not look back." -

I don't think I'm in a snail mail tier, but I just wanted to say thanks for being faithful to keep everyone posted, and for being fully committed to making some [going-to-be] amazing music! I love the communal process of sharing and making music, and I can't wait for the album! Thanks mpj!

Thanks for the update. But you didn't say just how to get the message to you with our address. So I tried info@mpjmusic.com that I got from your website.

Thanks for the update and the well-constructed music. Congrats on your new child. Peace and love and restful sleep to all of your family. Glad to be one of your backers, Matthew. I was awed to hear you do "Poisoning" in Louisville with Ten out of Tenn. This version moves me even more.

Posted project update #9Back in Nashville
Well, we had to say goodbye to Pozo Hondo and head back to Nashville. But we've returned with some great stories and lifelong memories. Our time in Texas was the best recording experience I've every had. The environment there is so full of thought, care and creativity that it couldn't help but seep into our recording process. The barn we recorded in was build in the 1700's by an Amish community. You can see the axe markings on the beams. To think how long it must have taken them to build that incredibly sturdy barn is inspiring in itself. I believe we honored the music with the same spirit of care and craft. I was blown away with how the band entered into the story of each song and played with such respect and passion. There were a couple times I choked on tears from the sense in the room. It was beautiful.
So now we are entering the backend phase. All the basic tracks of the record are recorded. Now it's time to add a few extra things like strings (cello, violin, etc.), background vocals and other touches to put the cherry on top. Unfortunately, my voice was shot almost the entire time we were in Texas, so I have to do vocals here. We are considering a few special places for me to sing and steer clear from an isolation booth in a studio. We will remain very intentional with maintaining environments that feed inspiration. I'll keep you posted on what we find.
More to come....
cheers,
mpj
