Mercy Bell

Brooklyn, NY

I'm a folk musician in Brooklyn by way of California and New England. I studied history in college, enjoy coffee and This American Life, and watch a lot more television than I should ever admit to.

    Updates! And a question...

    Hello friends!

Just wanted to let you know the album is 90% finished, it should be finished with mixing and mastering soon. I'm spending time in Massachusetts for the summer to work on finishing up Kickstarter rewards in the peace and quiet.

A question: if I were to tour, what cities/venues/musicians would you recommend visiting and contacting? House concerts and do-it-yourself venues are wonderful!

    Much love,

    Mercy

Great news on the album - I hope it's all you want it to be. Can't wait to hear it.

As for cities/venues, I reckon I'll probably be waiting a while but I'd go for London (naturally), with the venue being Bush Hall (http://www.bushhallmusic.co.uk/). And, since I'm solidly in daydream territory ...

As for musicians, a double-bill with Julie Peel would be tops but apparently she's doing something else now for a while. So for a dream line-up, I would probably go with the recently (kinda) reformed Drugstore who's first album has pretty much never moved out of my top five for 15 years. A thing of astonishing and slightly dark beauty. If you get a chance to check it out, please give it a listen - it's amazing.

Should I be posting stuff about other bands here??? Any-hoo, as for the reformed Drugstore, check out http://isabelmonteiro1.blogspot.com/.

        Cheers,

        lolkid.

come to the Bay Area! no doubt it's a great music scene. SF + Oakland...but if you had to go with one, i'm biased, so come to Oakland.

    Holy mackerel batman! $8,000

    Dear everybody,

I am utterly, utterly at a loss for how to accurately impart my gratitude and humility and SHOCK at your help with this project and my efforts to do so will ultimately end up as a run-on sentence.

Thank you. $8,000 means I can do a few more than 4 or 5 songs. That's pretty rad.

I've always had a faith in the relationship between creativity and community, and this last month you all helped bolster that belief.

I keep thinking of one of my favorite lyrics from the old Scottish ballad Wild Mountain Thyme:

    and we'll all go together
    to pull wild mountain thyme
    all around the bloomin' heather
    will ye go lassie go.

    Boom! Love! Namaste!

    Mercy

        Mercy,

I am so happy for you and so glad that I could be a small part of this. I love to see the great things that can happen to those who go for it all! Knock 'em dead!

    ¡Goooooal!

Thanks to all of you, I’ve met my Kickstarter goal with 23 days to go.

On that note: People, keep donating! The more money I get, the more secure this project (in case anyone has to back out to pay rent/buy food or if there's card failure) the more I can add to the album, so keep on keepin on.

    Here’s the link (again): http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mercybell/help-mercy-bell-make-an-ep

Gratitude can be fumbling because it’s this wild prairie thing in your chest and to be expressed only has overused words and mass produced cards in lieu of a firstborn on hand or, say, the Statue of Liberty. It really needs its own precise artform to impart itself. It needs to be distilled like gin, or dripped like an IV.

So, simply: thank you all. I do not feel worthy.
