Posted project update #60Happy End (of the Container)
Courtesy of Game Salute, we now have a picture of the container. After intensive coordination between port, trucking and Game Salute holiday schedules last week, a truck arrived in New Hampshire earlier today with a red container on top. Inside the container were rows of pallets, two level deeps. The nice folks from Game Salute had to actually unload every pallet and reload outside the truck due to lack of loading dock/lift gate. Thanks to the crew at Game Salute for all the hard work. It looks like it was cold, too....
This project is coming to an end. It's been a blast. But as of this week, there are no more pre-orders, just orders. And book-keeping, accounting and CA sales tax. Ugh.
All Kickstarter backers should have received their game by now - if not, please contact me.
If you liked your first few games, please blog, post, plus, tweet and facebook about the game. If not, please pass on your game to some friend working at a startup :-)
The URL is http://www.startupfever.com/ or just tell folks to Google it. The game is only available on the Web or in "select game stores"
If you want to go all out, please rate it on Board Game Geek. It's a bit tricky, you have to do have an account, be logged in, and do it under "User Information" at the bottom of http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/95128/startup-fever. Note that if you rate below 7/10, you are moving the average in the wrong direction...
Thanks again to everybody, and
A HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL NEW YEAR!

Posted project update #59Cosco Dalian arrived in Boston
The Cosco Dalian arrived in Boston. I hope they are unloading the container as I write this. If you are in Boston, maybe you can check it out and take a picture - and guess which container is full of games :-)
You can't actually see the ship on the picture, and it's not really this container, as the satellite images are unfortunately not real-time...

Jesper, your packet was received by UPS on December and UPS now claims: 'Your item is being processed by customs in DENMARK at 12:29 pm on December 13, 2011." You should have received an e-mail with UPS tracking number. I'll follow up offline with you.

Kim, I'll follow up offline about replacing your games. This is unexpected, as the games were actually sitting around a long time, while Panda resolved supply and quality issues on the tin cans. They were only shrink-wrapped after that. Did you open both, and do they both have the same problem?

Thinking more about it. this hasn't really been a problem so far, as after the first poach - the countered employee moves towards the 4-field on the vesting track, and there is almost always another, cheaper employee to poach. But the rules as written allow you to go after the same employee again, if there are no others.

Oh, turn order. Yes. Random the first year. It normally doesn't really matter in the first year. There would be place on page four for a comment on the first year. Good suggestion. You can try two employees per target product. You can only do it once per employee (and this might be missing in the rules). But you can try to poach two employees from one target product. So yes, you can make each product pay twice. In a four player game, with 3 products each, you can try to poach 3 x 2 = 6 employees, and the company would have to counter 6 times.

The FAQ on rules is here: http://www.startupfever.com/rulesfaq Product selection is one aspect that changed late during development. There is a "Note" on page 4 of the rules that says in 4-6 player games all players remove the same chip(s), e.g. "Media" and there is no "Media." This creates the least amount of randomness as everybody has the same amount of competition. Earlier in development, I played with each player deciding which products to invest. Where you put the product chip on the board doesn't really matter, but it's easiest if one player's products are next to each other. As of poaching, I added a section to the FAQ In poaching only one player pays the price. If there is no counter offer, the player who's turn it is pays and moves the employee to the currently playing product. If there is a counter offer, the player who countered pays the price, and the employees stays at the same company. The employee only stays because the current employer paid money. The employee can move one field back on the vesting track for each money paid. All money paid goes to the pile/bank. Think of it as the employee receiving it, and depositing it into the bank from where it will go to other use later in the game.

I just got my own copy here in the Philippines. Thank you !
