Posted project update #5Oakland in Popular Memory essays published
Post CommentI'm making good progress on the book Oakland in Popular Memory. I've been writing several drafts of my essays to complement the interviews. These essays will be included in the back of the book and cover what's happening in Oakland today.
The Inside Google Books blog published a draft of my essay on Gertrude Stein's Oakland. Read the piece: Gertrude Stein puts the “there” back in Oakland. And you can read about how I got a whiff of tear gas while researching for this piece.
I've written several accounts of Occupy Oakland, one of which was turned into a short play by Theater Pub last month. My most recent piece on the Oakland Local blog is here.
And here's the first draft of my essay on the Paradox of Writing about Oakland.
I'll send out another update closer to the publication date. Hope you're doing well!
