Posted project update #24Marquee Five at the Buck Hill Skytop Music Festival this May!
Post CommentHello Kickstarter friends!
2012 has brought about some great new additions for us. Member Julie Reyburn gave birth to a new son, Jude, and we are all hard at work with new arrangements for our upcoming "Swing"-themed show! And you have a chance to hear a few of these new arrangements this May: Marquee Five will perform a unique set of music on May 18th, 7:30pm, as part of the 2012 BHSMF SOAR Program and the Buck Hill Skytop Music Festival (www.buckhillskytopfest.org). The concert is FREE and will include brand new arrangements for our upcoming "swing" show as well as songs from our past two shows, "We Can Make It: The Songs of Kander & Ebb" and "8-Track Throwback", plus perhaps a few surprises! At the piano will be MAC Award-Winner Mark Janas. Arranger and Musical Director for Marquee Five is Adam West Hemming.
The performance will take place at the Pocono Mountain East High School at Swiftwater, Swiftwater, PA. Visit the Buck Hill Skytop Music Festival website for the schedule, directions, and more information about other performances by other amazing artists! You can also find them on Facebook.
Thanks!

Posted project update #23Update: Great Beginnings for Marquee Five in 2012!
Post CommentHello Kickstarter Supporters!
It's been an exciting beginning of 2012 for Marquee Five. Not only are we starting to create our new show, but our debut CD, "8-Track Throwback," is gaining some traction online in various forms and in the music community. Read on...
Now available online: CD & Digital Download!Marquee Five is happy to announce that in addition to the ability to purchase "8-Track Throwback" in CD Form (Paypal or Amazon), you can now also easily download the album in MP3 form on iTunes or Amazon. Get your favorite tracks individually or nab the whole album! Also available on Amazon UK and Amazon Japan. If you have friends you think need to hear the CD *you* helped to fund, please pass these links along!
Review "8-Track Throwback" on Amazon and iTunes?
When you have a moment online this week, it would help Marquee Five immensely if we had some more reviews of our debut CD on record. Please visit iTunes or Amazon and click on the "Create Your Own Review" button (Amazon) or enter five stars on iTunes and type in a mini review. What are your favorite tracks? How do any of them make you feel or remind you of yesteryear? What songs or styles do you hope Marquee Five will perform in the future? In either video or text format, customer reviews are essential to help up-and-coming artists gain visibility and interest from strangers who have never heard us before. Thanks for your help!
Are you wearing your t-shirt?
If you didn't receive one as a Kickstarter reward, or if you need more for gifts, you can purchase Marquee Five T-shirts (sizes S, M, L, and XL) HERE. Want a Marquee Five mug? Tote bag? Hat, mousepad or doormat? Well, those aren't available yet, but if you have any suggestions for M5 merchandise that you would love to purchase in the future, let us know at marqueefive@gmail.com.
Finally - "8-Track Throwback" (the album) is in the running for a MAC Award!MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) posted the 2012 MAC Awards Submissions list online, and "8-Track Throwback" is in the "Recording" category! This means we are on the preliminary list of submitted applicants towards a nomination. A special committee in charge of the Recording, Song, and Special Music Material categories will narrow down this list and announce the final nominees in all categories on March 1st, 2012. After a second round of voting by the MAC members (become one by downloading the membership form), the MAC Award winners will be announced on March 29th, 2012 at B.B. King's in New York City.
Thanks so much for following our progress!

Posted project update #22Update #22: First CD Review - Cabaret Scenes.org Gives "8-Track Throwback" a RAVE!
Post CommentHello Kickstarter Lovelies!
We are thrilled to have received a great holiday gift - our first CD review of "8-Track Throwback". Even better, it's a glowing one! Check out the full review here, and read some quotes below. They're certainly keeping *us* warm in the cold air this season...
"...the coolest collection of vocal group harmonies since Manhattan Transfer..."
"Listening to this debut CD, it’s clear that “Marquee” is the right name for five smooth, synchronized and powerful singers who seamlessly blend their voices together for a distinctive group sound."
"While Manhattan Transfer’s four-part harmonies and intricate vocalese transformed specific songs, Hemming and Marquee Five excel on the kind of medleys and mash-ups that would make the kids from Glee jealous."
To purchase more copies of "8-Track Throwback," visit our website and buy today! Links to purchase on Amazon and iTunes coming soon...
Thanks so much for all your support throughout 2011 - it's been a stellar year for Marquee Five, and we truly couldn't have done it without you. Happy Holidays, and an incredibly Happy New Year to all our backers, friends, and family!

Posted project update #17Proof We Are Not in Bermuda!
Post CommentHello Marquee Five friends & family!
Haven't heard from us in a while, eh?
Rest assured, we have not taken the Kickstarter funds into the Bermuda sun for a giant group vacation - instead, we've been quite indoors, isolated in a little room for the past few weeks! Recording has been a blast, and we have the pictures to prove it (thanks to Todd Leach for coming by with his nice camera!). You can see more at our Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/MarqueeFive.
It's been an amazing experience to deconstruct the songs we know so well to fit the recording process, adjusting to the sounds of our voices through headsets, gain new insights, and even learn and record new backup vocals for two songs which were previously solo-only. We're also recording some special extras, so stay tuned for info on how to hear those in the future!Recording and mixing should be completed this summer and you can expect news about our big release in the fall.
We are incredibly excited that this is now our reality - thanks to you!
Best,
Adam, Vanessa, Sierra, Mick & Julie

Posted project update #16Update #16: Heading into the Studio THIS WEEKEND!
Post CommentHello friends!
A lot has happened since our last update! We attended the 2011 MAC Awards on Tuesday, May 10th, and while we didn't go home with an award ourselves, our very own Julie Reyburn won for "Major Artist" (you can view video of her acceptance speech and song here, video/editing by James Eden, featuring Mark Janas on piano). And speaking of Mark Janas, he and Producer Tanya Moberly also won for The Salon, considered by Marquee Five to be our Open Mic family for years. You can see backstage interviews after their acceptance speech here.
Last night, Marquee Five had our CD band rehearsal with Mark Janas (piano), Matt Scharfglass (bass), Tony Romano (guitar) and we introduced drummer Walter Usiatynski into the mix. It was amazing to hear these songs with a clear beat behind them, energizing tempo changes and even more of that "throwback" funk! Thanks to such fierce musicians, this CD will certainly have a rock feel, with great energy in the band accompaniment - we're all very excited to step into the studio to record the band this weekend!
So, as 11am rolls around on Saturday, please know that Marquee Five thanks all of our fans, friends, and family for making this recording possible - It's been a long time coming, and we couldn't have done it without you.
Thank you,
Marquee Five - Julie, Mick, Vanessa, Adam, Sierra
