Posted project update #3What do Sean Capone and Alex Villar have to say about LUMEN?
Post CommentAlex: "I love the intensity of such a large public art event combined with the fleeting temporality of a single day; it conveys a sense of urgency to address the contemporary questions of the day. I would hate for it not to repeat elsewhere in the future since such collective public art interventions are much needed today."
Sean: "I think it's important to call attention to the fact that we are surrounded by electronic media at all times in our urban environment. Electronic media--whether LED billboards the size of buildings, or handheld 3G devices--very much defines our notion of public space. So, it is useful to think about this as a space in which art can be created and presented as well, presenting a temporary respite from commercial bombardment. This in turn helps people think differently and critically about media and urban space in a broader sense."
Please come see these artists and many, many more on June 26th!!!

Posted project update #1New Artists being added Every Day!!
Post CommentLUMEN's momentum is really starting to build! We're adding new artists to the participating roster every day. Recent additions include Sean Capone, whose work was recently featured at MoMA during the Armory Week opening party on March 3rd, and Scott Peehl, whose work I fell in love with at Fountain Miami. Scott does "video painting" installations in unlikely places, so be sure to keep an eye out for his work at LUMEN. Also, MWF Video Club will be participating in our "old school lounge" area - because of this great addition people will be able to view video art from the past FOUR decades...pretty exciting.
And don't forget, LUMEN, like all of COAHSI's programming is FREE and open to the public. See you on June 26th!
