    Quick Update

    Hey Backers!

1.) Please, check out pictures of the construction on the Art Not Arrests website if you haven't already -- Progress is quite exciting! http://www.artnotarrests.com/design/process.html

2.) We are woking on getting rewards in the mail over the next couple weeks! Hang tight :)

3.) Upcoming Event: Film Screening - 'The Interrupters'

    Date: May 12th, 2012 (Raindate, May 13th)

    Time: 7:15pm

Location: Crow Hill Community Garden - 730 Franklin Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11238

Please come enjoy an evening in the garden as we show "The Interrupters". Please bring folding chairs or a blanket to sit on. After the film, participants will be invited to stay and discuss what we can do in our community to prevent gun violence. Zip-cuffs will be available for donation, to be decorated and added to the installation at the event.

"The Interrupters tells the moving and surprising stories of three Violence Interrupters who try to protect their Chicago communities from the violence they once employed. From acclaimed director Steve James and bestselling author Alex Kotlowitz, this film is an unusually intimate journey into the stubborn persistence of violence in our cities. Shot over the course of a year out of Kartemquin Films, The Interrupters captures a period in Chicago when it became a national symbol for the violence in our cities."

    WE MADE IT!

3 days ago, I was getting ready to lose hope on the project, we had less than 60 hours left to hit our goal - which was $2500 away at the time. I was feeling pretty grim and hopeless. But instead of curling up in my bed and crying which, I'll admit, I kinda wanted to do.... Kristen and I grabbed our notebooks and went begging door to door for donations from the local businesses in the area. We wrote 7 thousand emails to friends and family members and sent the information to as many blogs as possible in hopes that somehow we could make it work.

Let me just say, WOW, what a tremendously supportive community we have here in Brooklyn! Our neighbors shared our project and threw in their last minute donations, which added up quickly. The local business owners dove right in - excited to help in any way possible - even those that weren't able to help financially offered me lunch, donuts, coffee, or the option to have them cater our events throughout the summer. The project was published in lots of blogs including the Huffington Post! Our friends and families gave what they could, and the members of my Lana's gym (CrossFit South Brooklyn) contributed almost a thousand dollars collectively! (talk about an amazingly supportive fitness community).

After all this, here we are! OVER our goal! What an amazing couple of days it has been!

Seriously, thank you all SO much! We have a lot to do now :)

Thanks so much for all of your help! We are so excited to have you involved in the project! I'll write a more in depth update about our corporate sponsors -- who they are, what they do, and why I love them, very soon. The Countdown Begins!

Goooooooooood Afternoon Team 'Art Not Arrests'!

We have officially entered the most fun part every Kickstarter campaign, the final week! We have 7 days to raise $2,852! PRETTY EXCITING!

Let me just start by saying, very confidently, we've got this! There is not a single doubt in my mind that we will raise this money, if we all work together to make it happen! Why am I so confident? Because I've seen the way the neighborhood has reacted to the project. After presenting the project a hundred times to a thousand different people -- I've seen the way people's eyes light up about it. I know there is a genuine interest in it going forward, we just need to get the information out there.

Below is a list of five great things this project is offering to Brooklyn:

Please use this list to convince your friends and family to donate to the project TODAY! Please share this list with local do-gooders and ask that they share our Kickstarter page with their organizations. Please don't be shy about helping -- WE NEED YOUR HELP! Help get the movement for better arts and education programs for Brooklyn's youth started! YOUR donations will be used to fund the materials needed to launch the project. Then....

    • If launched, this project will collect the interests and donations of over a thousand people looking for a better way to tackle the gun violence issues that plague our streets, neighborhoods, neighbors, friends, and families, every day.
    • If launched, this project will build a creative environment within the Crow Hill Community Garden for conversations to grow and children to learn.
    • If launched, this project will host FREE art classes all summer long for local kids and teens.
    • If launched, this project will help other community organizations working toward safer neighborhoods with the funding they need to launch their youth oriented initiatives.
    • If launched, this project will raise awareness on the many ways to fight gun violence within your community.

Please help us get this project launched -- share this information with everyone you can and help us raise the rest of this money!!

Thanks so so so much for all of your help so far. We couldn't have gotten this far without you :)
