Posted project update #4Kronos: Under 30 Project Past Recipients - Felipe Pérez Santiago
Post CommentKronos has commissioned four works via the Under 30 Project thus far, and it's been an absolute pleasure to work with each of these composers. This week and next we'll be sharing interviews with these composers, and comments from Kronos about the works commissioned through Under 30.
Felipe Pérez Santiago, recipient of Under 30 / #2, received the commission in 2003. He describes the benefits of working with Kronos: "it gives you the opportunity to hear your music played as you've always imagined it. You know that you can experiment, explore new sounds, explore different possibilities of the instrument and the music, and you know you're going to to get the best performance possible."

Posted project update #3Kronos: Under 30 / #5 - Discovering New Composers
Post CommentHi everyone! As of this week, we're 50% funded, and we're still working hard to meet our goal. Please forward this update & share Under 30 / #5 with your friends if you can.
Did you know that we've continued working with many composers we discovered through the Under 30 Project, including applicants that didn't receive the Under 30 commission that year? Kronos founder & violinist David Harrington discusses the lasting artistic relationships he's formed through the project: "The relationships we establish with our composers are rarely one-time events. For me, if something's good enough to do once, it's good enough to keep doing."

Posted project update #2Kronos: Under 30 / #5 - Project Stages
Post CommentHi everyone! We're happy to share that we're now over 40% funded - we're on our way there! If you haven't shared Under 30 / #5 with your friends yet, please forward this update or post it on Facebook to help spread the word.
So how does Under 30 work, besides the part where we dig through hundreds of scores and CDs? Kronos violinist John Sherba discusses the project stages (beyond the selection process): "The fun part is inviting the composer over to work with us...these composers are really brilliant people with brilliant ideas."

Posted project update #1Kronos: Under 30 Project - the Selection Process
Post CommentHappy holidays, everyone! We really appreciate all of the support you've shown us so far for Under 30 / #5.
We'll be posting videos about Under 30 through January to give you a deeper look at the project's process and history. Here are a few words from our cellist Jeffrey Zeigler about the selection process the quartet went through for Under 30 / #4, including how the quartet narrows down the hundreds of CDs and scores they receive to just one Under 30 commission recipient.
In coming weeks we'll share more about the rehearsal and development process, and the four Under 30 works that have been commissioned thus far. Thanks, and stay tuned!
